Paduan School (16th century), probably cast by Francesco Segala (c.1535-1592) from the model by Tiziano Aspetti (c.1517-1552): A Pair of Bronze Figures of a Prophet and Sibyl, he standing wearing flowing robes holding a leather-bound volume, she in flowing robes holding a scroll across her wrap 22cm high, on later green marble bases For a similar example of the Prophet, see Metropolitan Museum, New York, accession number 18.111.Having identified the model of the male figure as Moses in his 1921 book on Venetian sculptors, Leo Planiscig attributed this model to Tiziano Aspetti. However, in 1976 Ian Wardroper observed that the figure holds a book rather than a tablet of the law and should be considered a prophet. In 1545 Aspetti was commissioned to execute a Serraglio (grille) for the Santo in Padua. Vasari records that this commission remained incomplete due to the premature death of the sculptor. In 1564 Paduan sculptor Francesco Segala requested the models in order to make casts.
