A large and impressive 19th Century Japanese Oriental Meiji period bronze figurine of a young woman in traditional robe dress holding a large open basket. The figure with detailed features raised on circular shaped base. Signed to base with three Character marks reading Seiya chu' (cast by Seiya), referring to the renowned Tokyo workshop of Genryusai Seiya active during the Meiji period in Japan. This workshop was famous for their high quality bronze ' okimono ' of animals, human figures and vases, made for the export market (Europe, USA) in the late 19th century. Both portrayed as nude with Fortuna having small drape across her loins and Mercury having a winged pegasus helmet and winged ankles. Both stood upon open mouthed cherub mask and wheel. Raised on Sienna marble pedestal bases. Measures approx; 33cm tall.
