A collection of Second World War awards, comprising 1939-45 Star, Burma Star, four 1939-45 Defence Medals, one box of postage for a Defence Medal, detailed `Mrs Alice Kate Tolhurst`, 1939-45 War Medal, Efficiency Medal with bar `Territorial`, George VI issue, to `T-27296 W.O.Cl.1. W.E. Fergusson. R.A.S.C.`, and a bronze medal, detailed `British Services Tattoos Dortmund Berlin 1947`.
After Edouard Drouot - a pair of late 19th/early 20th Century French green patinated cast bronze figures of Roman soldiers, wearing plumed helmets and typical dress, one holding a scroll, each raised on a circular base with cast signature `E. Drouot`, and black turned slate plinths, height approx 49cm.
A pair of late 19th Century gilt bronze five light candelabra, each with a cut glass finial and sectional knop stem supporting two graduated tiers of scroll branches, hung with vase cut glass tear-shaped drops, the lower tier issuing five sconces, raised on a turned baluster stem and a circular foot, height approx 71cm (fitted for electricity).
A 1914-18 British War Medal and 1914-19 Victory Medal to `GS-49857 A. Cpl. S. Levene. R.Fus.`, two silver fob medallions, a bronze fob medallion, a 1951 crown, boxed, a Lifesaving Society bronze medallion, a shield shaped enamelled badge, detailed `Penstone House`, an enamelled badge, detailed `AID on HM Service`, and five various medals for Punctual School Attendance, with dated suspension brooch bars.
A Bronze Eprouvette Mortar, 19th century, with tapering barrel, pronounced raised mouldings and plain vent field, 29cm barrel, 3.5cm bore. An Eprouvette was a one piece fixed elevation mortar used to test the strength of gunpowder. It went out of general use by the middle of the 19th century. In use a carefully weighed quantity of powder was placed inside, followed by a standartd weight shot. The charge was fired and the distance the shot flew was measured and compared to the expected standard distance.
A Great War “Western FrontÕ Prisoner of War, Casualty Group to Private C. G. Grainger, Battalion The Buffs (East Kent Regiment),British War and Victory Medals (9060 Pte.C.G. Grainger.E.Kent), extremely fine, Great War Memorial Bronze Plaque (Cyril George Grainger) with Buckingham Palace enclosure, mounted for display, framed and glazed. Private Cyril George Grainger of the 7th Battalion, East Kent Regiment (The Buffs), Son of William Grainger of Southwood House Lodge, St. Lawrence, Ramsgate, died as a prisoner of war, on the 30th of August 1918, aged 22, he is remembered with honour at the Sarralbe Military Cemetery, France. Sarralbe Military Cemetery, can be found near the town of Sarralbe, in the Department of Moselle close to the German border, it was begun by the Germans but now contains only the graves of Commonwealth soldiers who died as prisoners of war. The cemetery contains ninety four Commonwealth burials of the Great War, three of which are unidentified. Sixty three of the graves were transferred from Haboudange, Morhange, Plaine-de-Walsch, Sarrebourg, Sarreguemines and Saverne Military Cemeteries and Czersk and Furstenfeldbruck Prisoners of War Cemeteries.
A 19th century tapered bronze model cannon barrel, possibly from an alarm gun or similar, 7” overall, with single mounting lug on the underside and elevating screw behind the cascabel loop, mounted on a naive stepped oak carriage with four iron wheels, the front mounted with a post 1907 coat of arms badge, the side bearing a plate from a uniform trunk or helmet tin engraved “Captn T Horton, 84th Regt”, length 11~” overall. A Soviet peaked cap, scarlet headband and piping, composition peak and a blue fur hat with flaps, both with badges; 15 Vic “Hants” police large WM buttons; a Krim shield (2 holes drilled to top); an 8th H enamelled shield sweetheart badge, an ERII Blues & Royals cap, a Northants bronze collar, 3 other items. A scarce percussion safety fuze pistol Mark I (1877), 7” overall, screw off bronze barrel 2”, bronze frame and integral trigger guard stamped with broad arrow and “WD” and Enfield inspector’s mark, short steel belt hook on right, one piece walnut butt with lanyard ring. GWO & C. These “pistols” were made for the Royal Engineers for igniting fuzes for mines, blasting etc, and although not marked as such were possibly made by Webley. Plate 11
A 6 shot .30” Moore’s Patent front loading teat fire revolver, 7” overall, round barrel 3¼” stamped “National Arms Co, Brooklyn, NY” number 30438, engraved bronze frame with spur trigger, ejector lever on right of frame, plain walnut grips.
