LAURENCE STEPHEN LOWRY (1887-1976); a set of three signed limited edition coloured prints "The Lowrys", portraits of the artist's mother, signed in pencil, his father, signed in pen, and a self portrait, signed in pen, all 95/300, all 35.5 x 26cm, all framed and glazed including certificate, also a bronze medallion of Lowry from an original model by Leo Solomon, also 95/300, with certificate, diameter of medallion 13cm, and the original folio in which the prints were contained (6). A small Chinese bronze twin handled koro with Archaic style decorative band, with later turned wooden cover with floral green jade finial, height 9cm, and an opposing pair of Chinese carved hardwood figures of tigers with glass inset eyes and bone teeth, on naturalistic ebonised base, length 25cm (3). CONDITION REPORT: Natural splits to the tigers, pitting to the koro.
A Chinese bronze teapot of squat globular form, cast decorated with two chasing dragons and similarly decorated detachable cover, with swing loop handle on three integrated feet, length 15cm including spout. CONDITION REPORT: General condition appears good with some areas of surface wear such as scratches and dents, also there is a copper stud restoration, some tarnish throughout particularly to the incised sections between dragons.
A late 19th century French gilt bronze mounted white marble three piece clock garniture, the eight day clock with circular enamel dial set with Arabic numerals and with makers name "Dijon", with drum type movement surmounted with a pair of pigeons perched on a branch, above a fluted floral garland decorated stem flanked by two leaf capped volutes, on rectangular foliate and bead decorated base with turned feet, height 26.5cm, and a matching pair of twin branch candlesticks, each surmounted with an urn with flowers, branch span 18cm.
A Victory Medal, and a General Service Medal, both ascribed to "24013 PTE. A. HORTON. CHES. R.", a British War Medal ascribed to "212882 SPR. W. ALLEN. R.E." and a Defence Medal, unascribed, all with ribbons, also a ribbon bar brooch, two badges, a bronze remembrance plaque, four WWI embroidered postcards, some banknotes, photographs, and two "The Arras Memorial" booklets. CONDITION REPORT: Name on the remembrance plaque - Arthur Horton.
A 1930s cold painted bronze figure of a terrier on green onyx rectangular base with ashtray, 17.5 x 11cm. CONDITION REPORT: Some nibbles to the edge to the base, particularly in section of ashtray and to underneath of the corners, wear to base, lined with green baize, some flaking to the paint on the figure of the dog, surface dirt.
A fine triple train bracket clock by Lambert, Coventry Street, the case veneered to simulate tortoiseshell and with chased gilt bronze mounts, the dial with chime and silent silvered dial and 'Cambridge chimes'/'chime on eight bells' silvered dial, within chased gilt brass spandrels and a silvered chapter ring, the whole with flambeau finials and chased gilt bronze feet, the back plate and pendulum bob engraved, height 55cm. A Daum France glass bowl mounted with a cold painted bronze branch on which are perched two budgerigars, together with a Cristal Ille de France glass bowl. Condition report: Tiny chip on Cristal Ille de France glass bowl too small to photograph. On Ashtray, three tiny flaws above Daum signature. Paint on budgerigars good, beak on budgerigar with yellow head has slight damage but generally in good condition.
An early Bronze Age 'Bann type' stone axe, dating to around 2000BC of a highly polished green basalt-type rock, with very minimal wear which would indicate it was most likely used for ritual purposes rather than warfare or as a tool. The name of the River Bann in Northern Ireland is normally given to a peculiar type of axe with a semi circular blade and sharply indented waist, 10.2 x 8.5cm. Provenance: Given to the vendor in the 1960s, from the effects of his uncle, Harry Watson of Beechpark, a large a country house in Lurgan, Northern Ireland, which is less than a mile from the River Bann.
A Chinese 19th century baluster form bronze vase decorated in the Chou style with a border of stylised lin chi dragons within pendant palmate panels, the neck with an archaic border of stylised tao tieh masks, the foot with archaistic four character mark, height 34cm. Good condition. One small dent, one panel polished.
A Chinese 19th century western Chou style bronze basket handled Yu and cover, decorated with raised flanges dividing a band of T'ao t'ieh masks and narrow bands of stylised chilong dragons, the interior of the cover with a cast inscription in archaic Zhuanshu script, height with handle extended 32cm. Small split, otherwise good condition.
A pair of good Japanese Eisuke Niya'O bronze figures of boy musicians each stands on a gilt lacquered rectangular hardwood base, each signed, maximum height 27.5cm, maximum width of base 14.5cm. Condition report: Stands rubbed and faded, one top split. Bronzes in good condition. Bronze with fan, small loss of patina to back of head and left shoulder. Figure with fan 165mm, other figure 195mm. One figure has flute missing.
