Samuel Tonkiss (1909-1992) A Portrait bust of Laurence Stephen Lowry, signed and numbered 31/36 (numbers indistinct) from a Limited Edition produced in 1975, mid patinated bronze, total height 32cm the composite granite base, 15.5cm square, the base bears label L.S.Lowry. R.A.1887-1976 NOTE: Samuel Tonkiss was born in Shropshire and moved to West Yorkshire where he worked as a journalist in the early 1960s he began to sculpt a series of portrait busts, some of which were cast in Limited Editions, an earlier sculpture of Lowry circa 1971 is exhibited in the National Portrait Gallery (subject to artists re-sale rights). â€
