† Sean Henry (b.1965)Man Waiting 2022Signed with initials and numbered SH 3/9 (to underside of base)Bronze with oil painting, from an edition of 938cm high, 17cm wide, 22cm deep British artist Sean Henry depicts mostly anonymous figures, in painted clay and bronze, often portrayed in thoughtful and contemplative poses. Changes of scale disrupt our comprehension of the figures - dimensions are never life size, but rather enlarged or reduced, creating a physical and psychological contrast in relation to the viewer. Henry’s large-scale installations include 'Seated Figure' originally situated on the North York Moors and now on view at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. In Woking, Surrey, a series of eight figures are permanently located throughout the town centre, and his painted bronze sculpture of Sir Tim Berners Lee can be seen in the newly reopened National Portrait Gallery in London. Henry graduated from Bristol Polytechnic in 1987 and has had more than 35 solo shows during his career. His work is regularly exhibited by galleries and museums in London, New York, Stockholm, Bad Homburg and Brussels, and his sculptures can be found in public collections in the UK, Sweden, Norway, Germany, USA and elsewhere. Henry lives and works near Winchester, Hampshire.

London Underground enamel PLATFORM BULLSEYE SIGN from Grange Hill station on the Hainault loop section of the Central Line, a former GER/LNER station that became part of the Underground from 1948. Work on the conversion had started in 1938 and was then interrupted by WW2. The sign is of pre-war design with black lining out and therefore likely to date from the opening. A 3-part sign plus original bronze frame. Measures 60" x 42" (152cm x 107cm) and generally in very good, ex-use condition with some small blemishes, scratches and lightly weathered. [1 sign in 4 parts]

It has the black lining-out which was a feature of the pre-WW2 signs and measures 34" x 27" (87cm x 69cm). In very good, ex-use condition with just minor blemishes. [3 parts + frame]

Lot 460

1930/40s London Underground enamel PLATFORM BULLSEYE SIGN from Liverpool Street station. The sign is of pre-war design with black lining out and we therefore speculate that it could have been on the Central Line platforms and could date from the construction of the eastern extension of the line, originally due to open in 1940/41. A most uncommon sign, it comes in 3-parts plus original bronze frame. Measures 60" x 42" (152cm x 107cm) and is generally in very good, ex-use condition with only small blemishes, the frame is lightly curved when disassembled. [1 sign in 4 parts]
