A BRONZE IMITATION BIÊN HÒA 边和 STONEWARE VASE OF ARCHAISTIC SHAPE VIETNAM, BIÊN HÒA 边和 SCHOOL OF APPLIED ARTS, SECOND HALF OF 20TH CENTURY This vase rests on a spread foot, has a globular body and a waisted shoulder surmounted by a trumper collar. Its shoulder is applied with three ram shaped molded handles. Its shape has been done after Chinese archaic bronze models dating to the Shang period. Its base bears a mark ‘边和’, lit. ‘Biên Hòa’, as well as another mark, unidentified, that may be that of an artist. H: 34 cm Provenance: A private collection of Vietnamese Art, French Riviera, France. A FAMILLE VERTE ‘DAOIST IMMORTALS’ PORCELAIN VASE OF ARCHAISTIC GU SHAPE APOCRYPHAL MARK OF EMPEROR KANGXI CHINA, 20TH CENTURY Of beaker or cornet shape, it rests on a short ring foot. It is finely painted with a combination of enamels, i.e. over glazed yellow and green and underglaze red and cobalt blue. The decoration is arranged in superposed registers. On the lower one are flowers. On the medium one are auspicious symbols including archaistic bronze vessels. On the upper one is an interesting scene with Daoist immortals in a pavilion and with crashing waves and clouds. The base bears an apocryphal six-character mark of Emperor Kangxi in cobalt blue and kaishu script. The incense burner opens by a cover or lid, in that case the head of the beast, retained by hinges. H: 20,5 cm Weight: 1485 grams Note: A Lùduān is a legendary Chinese auspicious creature. It looks like a deer with a green coat, the tail of a horse and a single horn on its head. It can travel 18,000 li (9000 km or 5500 mi) in a single day and speaks all world languages.
