WILLI SOUKOP, R.A. [1907-95]. Runner, c.1938. bronze, unique sculpture, signed WS on bronze base and SOUKOP under base. 24.5 cm high, excluding wood base. Provenance: Armstrong-Davis Gallery, Jan. 1975; private collection, UK - with original invoice and photo of this sculpture in a Bryant & May matches advert. Soukop taught Elisabeth Frink and Robert Clatworthy and was a very good carver and modeller, but tended not to stick to any particular style for too long [quite refreshing]. ROBERT CLATWORTHY, R.A. [1928-2015]. Cat, 1955. bronze, edition of 8 [8/8], signed RC. 48 cm long. Provenance: private collection, Canada; acquired directly from the artist. Literature: 'Robert Clatworthy', Sansom, 2012, p.94, pl. RC32. The Royal Academy of Arts collection includes another cast of this sculpture. This one of his best Cats. Clatworthy is probably the greatest modern sculptor of animals and abstract Heads - in a different class to Frink [they studied together, but Clatworthy was the bigger artist in the 1950s and early 1960s with one-man exhibtions at Hanover Gallery and Waddington Galleries]. Clatworthy is the greatest modern sculptor of animals and abstract Heads - he was represented by the Hanover Gallery in the 1950s and early 60s and by Waddingtons from the mid-1960s onwards. JAPANESE CAST BRONZE PEDESTAL JARDINIERE depicting figures in a landscape on one panel and figures on a bridge in a Fuji mountain scape on the other. Unmarked, 21cm diameter, 20.5cm high approx. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Rather bashed and bent in places, especially to the base. The interior is rough with heavy wear in places, however appears complete overall.
19TH CENTURY ROSEWOOD TWO TRAIN BRACKET CLOCK having arch case with floral and foliate mouldings, brass inlaid scroll work and bun feet. Circular painted face with Roman numerals. Unmarked brass twin fusee movement, originally striking on one bell, lacks pediment, side loop handles and bell. 48cm high approx. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Requiring restoration. The case lacks its bronze pediment and loop handles. The case has splits in places. Some of the brass inlay is lifting and there are losses to that panel. Lacks its original bell. Rather grubby overall.
TWO AUSTRIAN COLD PAINTED BRONZE ANIMAL FIGURES, running hound and perching kingfisher. Hound 10cm long approx, kingfisher 7cm high approx. (2)(B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: The hound has chips and wear to his painted finish but otherwise good. The kingfisher painted finish is badly worn overall and one leg has been broken and crudely re-glued.
LATE 19TH CENTURY JAPANESE CAST BRONZE PLAQUE depicting figures engaged in various activities all in shell shaped cartouches with flowers in between with a birds and wave pattern border. Four character raised mark to the base. 30.5cm diameter approx. (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: The plaque has been over cleaned which has removed most of the gilding. However apart from that appearing complete.
A 1950's composite advertising model of a lamb wearing a floral blue sash advertising Lamtex rugs, 27 cm high, 33 cm wide, together with a detailed simulated copper bust of an eagle, raised on a plinth base, 30 cm high and a simulated bronze study of a horseman on a bucking mount, raised on a polished teak base, with applied plaque reading 'The Bronco Buster, Frederic Remington, National Cowboy Hall Of Fame, 41 cm high, the base measuring 30 x 19 cm (3).
