An extremely rare and fine Art Deco silver medal by Jean Vernon (French, 1897 - 1975) commemorating the launch and maiden voyage of S.S. Normandie, 1935, for the Compagnie Generale Transatlantique French Line, the obverse face showing a standing diaphanous goddess releasing a seahorse from chains, the reverse face showing a port-side view of the liner under full steam, the inscription to the obverse face reading "NORMANDIE 73280T Cie Gle TRANSATLANTIQUE French Line LE HAVRE NEW YORK 1935" the reverse face inscribed "NORMANDIE" and signed by the maker Jean Vernon, inscribed "2 ARGENT" to the rim, diameter 680 mm. weight 153.2 grams, in the original fitted wooden box covered by red leather with gilt inscription to the hinged lid top. CONDITION REPORT: One of only a few known examples. It is thought that these rare silver medals were given to only a handful of V.I.P. passengers and dignatories to celebrate the maiden voyage. Most examples of this medallion are cast in bronze. Provenance : We sell on behalf of the granddaughter of the original recipient who travelled on Normandie's maiden voyage. Condition : Perfect/Near Perfect, the medal looks not to have ever been romoved from its box.

The first with mixed metal decoration of woodgrain (mokume-gane) and birds flying over flowers, H13.5cm, the second with a red and black lacquer finish with a pair of cranes in relief, two character signature to body, H17.8cm
A Japanese late Meiji period bronze censer. Of cylindrical form decorated with four panels of archaic forms against a key fret ground, all raised on three ruyi-head feet. H9.5cm. Condition Report: Appears in a very good condition for its age, no cracks or restoration, some light surface marks and small dents.
