A pair of Moore Bros waterlily shaped vases, applied with flowers and bronze green and gilt leaves on entwined gilt stems and open-work gilt foot, 22cm h, printed mark, c1880 Typical minor faults such as chipping and localised worn gilding but in better than average condition for these and without restoration
A pair of Japanese bronze jars, covers and inner covers, carved and applied with quail, cockerels, phoenix and other birds, insects and foliage overall, the inner covers with shakudo fruit finial, 14.5cm h, signed Kazumasa on an engraved tablet on the finial, Meiji Extremely tarnished and with minor losses, the inner covers retaining the full original gilding and illustrating well the original appearance of the jars which could probably successfully cleaned. Of typically fine quality, no restoration or repolishing

A pair of George IV gilt bronze and cut glass candlesticks, with campana sconce and shallow drip-pan fringed with beads and pendants on lyre shaped pillar and stepped base, 28cm h Both glass sconces riveted and a little dusty but in otherwise excellent condition retaining the original patina, some of the glass drops possibly replaced or with faults. Note both drip-pans drilled. (Please see lot 1032 for image)
A Victorian brass box sextant by Troughton & Simms, with scale engraved on a silver arc and vernier with magnifier and two coloured glass filters, 7.5cm diam, signed Troughton & Simms, London; a bronze clinometer, by T Cooke & Sons Ltd, London & York 1898, leather case (2) Box sextant lacking the telescope and the lacquer rather scratched and worn in places. The Clinometer in fine condition.
A Continental bronze proving mortar, mid-18th Century, probably French of substantial weight, cast in one piece with a supporting bracket and moulded rectangular bed, the latter stamped 'No. 12', the barrel cast at 45 degrees and with a series of astragals and raised bands, transverse lifting-handle formed as a pair of conjoined pair of spiralling serpents, bulbous terminal with constricted powder chamber, and the vent with a projecting scalloped lip 16cm., 6.25in bore., 36cm., 14.125in bed length In 1686 the French army adopted a mortar-eprouvette for testing the quality of artillery powder; a number of versions remained in use throughout Europe and in Britain and the United States up to the mid-19th Century.
A fine pair of bronze saluting cannon,German or Dutch, dated 1638 with tapering multi-stage barrels, strongly moulded muzzles and astragals, stylised dolphin lifting handles, a pair of trunions, each cast with the owner's coat-of-arms and the date on a scroll over the first reinforce, narrow vent fields (covers-missing), moulded globose cascables, and decorated behind the muzzles and in front of the dolphins with bands of scrolling foliage, the latter incorporating a pair of clasped hands carrying a sheaf of six arrows: each on an early painted stepped wooden carriage with brass cap squares 50.1cm ; 19.75in barrels The trunnions appear to have been extended early in the cannons' working life to accomodate the present carriages. a german wheel-lock holster pistol, circa 1585 with two-stage barrel formed with an acutely flared muzzle and struck with Nuremburg mark and maker's initials P and D, with traces of a stamped device between, long tang extending over the length of the butt, flat lock struck with two marks, one a berry ( the other rubbed), with external wheel retained by a flat plate faced with a pierced fillet ( slightly damaged), sliding pan-cover ( release missing), fruitwood stock profusely inlaid with engraved horn plaques within a field of ball-flower scrolls, including animals and grotesque masks and all set within horn segmental lines and stringing ( fore-end incomplete, inlay missing), the pommel inset with a gilt-bronze rondel centering on a Herculean mask cast in high relief, and fitted with safety-catch opposite the lock ( incomplete, the trigger-guard, ramrod-pipe and ramrod all missing) 47cm., 18.5in
A German musketeer's triangular powder-flask, early 17th Century with wooden body bound with iron strips at the edges, the front fitted with pierced plates at the corners and a pierced shaped plate in the centre, four suspensions rings at the sides, iron top with spring cut-off and spring closure, the reverse with belt hook, and remaining in untouched condition throughout (the leather covering missing from the outer face); and a German musketeer's triangular charge flask, early 17th Century, with fabric-covered wooden body, bound with iron strips at the edges (one side panel missing its upper half), iron top fitted with spring closure, and applied with a cast bronze lion mask at the front the first: 23.7 cm ; 9.375in high (2)
