A Sino-Tibetan gilt bronze figure of Avalokitesvara, 18th/19th century. Standing with eight arms and eleven heads arranged in five tiers, the primary hands in namaskara mudra, standing on an oval lotus base, height 11.5cm, width 6cm, depth 4.5m.The eleven-headed Avalokiteshvara is an esoteric form of the Bodhisattva and became widely employed in tantric visualisations.According to the Karandavyuha Sutra and the Flower Garland Sutra, both compiled between the 5th and the 6th centuries AD, the eleven towering heads crowning the head of the deity represented the ten steps towards enlightenment. The fan of arms holding different attributes signified the measureless means to save all sentient souls from hell; see T.E.Neville, Eleven-Headed Avalokitesvara: Chenresigs, Kuan-Yin or Kannon Bodhisattva; its Origin and Iconography, New Delhi, 1999. Slight movement where figure is attached to base.

A Chinese bronze censer, late Ming Dynasty. The later wooden cover surmounted by a pale jade finial, the body decorated with stylised vine like dragons in relief, height of bronze censer 16.5cm, width 19cmWest Cornwall private seller, by family descent. The censer was bought in Shanghai in 1935 by the vendors uncle, who along with his brother (the vendors father) were working as Senior Constructors to the Admiralty for the design and construction of gunboats which included those used for the patrol of the Yangtze River.Weight of censer 1260 grams. Weight of cover 268 grams. There has been old repairs to the top rim. Two old repairs on the base and a tiny hole in one of the feet.
A Japanese bronze model of a carp. Height 9.5cm, length 29cm, depth 11cm.This carp is in excellent uncleaned order. There are no condition issues to note, though the colour, which is more prominent on the images than in person, is mostly due to it possibly requiring a dusting or a light clean, though some would suggest that part of the appeal is just that.

A Chinese gilt bronze censer and cover, late Ming Dynasty. Xuande mark, with elephant mask handles, the body with dragons amongst clouds in high relief, with pierced cover and scroll feet, height 15.5cm, width 19cm, depth 15.5cm.The Vandekar family established their internationally renowned antiques dealership in Amsterdam before moving to London in 1916. They specialized in the decorative arts of the 17th-20th century with a particular interest in 18th-19th century European and Chinese ceramics. In the 1970s and 80s, Michael Beard worked as a ceramics expert in the London showroom of Earle D. Vandekar of Knightsbridge, travelling internationally to trade shows and antiques fairs, and helping with the launch of the New York branch of Vandekar in 1982. There is no surprise that he leaves in his estate some beautiful examples of porcelain, ceramics, and objets d’art. When Michael retired to Cornwall around 1988 he settled at first in St Ives, where he became a prominent patron of the arts and a devoted member of the Old Cornwall Society. On his death he has left a collection boasting some fine examples of Cornish painting, sculpture, studio pottery, and decorative chinoiserie. No damages. Weight of censer body 1702 grams. (Ex Miriam Slater Kanzashi Collection) a Japanese tortoiseshell comb, inlaid with mother-of-pearl and decorated with leaves and fruit, set with three jade stones, 3.8 x 9.5cm, two further Japanese tortoiseshell combs and two Showa period combs, each with floral mother-of-pearl decoration. 20th Century School 'Study of a lady' bronze bust, unsigned, on wooden plinth, 57cm high overall including the plinth Overall scuffs, marks, scratches and signs of display wear. Verdigris and some tarnish in places. Scuffs and scratches to the base, consistent with age and use. Bust is slightly loose from the base and does 'spin'. Stands well.
Lorenzo Quinn (b.1966) 'With you', bronze resin sculpture of hands, on a metal and marble base, signed and numbered 862/999 near the base of the hands, 40cm high overall x 26cm wide x 18cm This piece does not come with a certificate of authenticity. Overall display wear, some marks and scratches. When this piece was brought into us, the vendor stated that it has previously undergone professional restoration, but it is incredibly difficult to see/photograph and does not affect the overall appearance of this piece.
Austrian cold-painted bronze figure group of blue budgies, 19th Century, unmarked, on rectangular onyx base, 33cm wide x 23cm high The lower branch with a single budgie has been broken off. It's quite a clean break and could be restored. The base has been broken and repaired. Overall wear, marks, scuffs and loss of painted decoration in places.
Bronze jardinière 20th Century, with pierced pellet border, unmarked, 24.5cm approx high x 32cm wide Overall wear, marks scratches and signs of age and use. Verdigris and some discolouration in places. Signs of significant wear and scratches throughout. Would benefit from being gently cleaned to remove surface dust and dirt.
Medals - A Bronze medal, designed by JS and AB Wyon, celebrating the recovery of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales from typhoid in 1872, depicts the allegorical figure of the City of London inviting Queen Victoria and the Prince of Wales to enter St Paul's Cathedral, while Britannia stands guard on the other side of the entrance, the reverse shows the congregation in the interior of the Cathedral at the crossing, with the lower stage of the dome visible.
