London Transport enamel-on-brass (or possibly bronze) SIGN 'Head Office, 55 Broadway, Westminster SW1'. Original location unknown but this version is unusual and the high-quality manufacture suggests it could have been at 55 Broadway itself. Measures 21" x 10" (53cm x 25cm) and is in very good, ex-use condition, the small blemishes appear worse in the picture than to the naked eye. [1]
1930s/40s London Transport enamel BUS STOP FLAG, the 'request' version. Double-sided with two enamel plates inside a bronze frame. The wide spacing of the letters in 'request' suggest to us that this is probably an early, pre-war example. Measures 18" x 16" (46cm x 40cm). An excellent example in very good, ex-use condition with only minor blemishes. Retains its original fixing rods. [1]
Very fine Japanese Kyoto bronze folding 4 leaf table screen, containing gold, silver and platinum, the panels decorated with bamboo and 2 birds, cockerel, hen and 2 chicks, flowering peony, and five cranes in flight, beneath an arched top, butterflies and moths below, the reverse engraved with a flowering tree and buildings beyond, junk in full sail, 2 junks with Mount Fuji beyond, and 7 birds in flight over land, and signed bottom right, 1920s, H.15.1cm, W.7cm each leaf, W.28.5cm overall, weighing 738.5grs. (With a letter stating it was bough early in 1930 when visiting Kyoto with an Admiral who changed his mind after deciding not to buy it, and was told it took 1 workman 7 years to make with another screen, which was bought by the Duke of Kent and given as a present to Queen Mary. Sold with the purchaser's explanatory letter and history of the Nogawa Co.)
