Davison’s Nile Medal in Bronze. Attributed HMS Majestic. A scarce example of the bronze medal issued to ratings who had been present at the Great Victory on the 1st August 1798. The reverse of this example with stamped name “Richard Axford Majestic”. Heavy pitting and edge knocks. Fitted with later ribbon suspension. HMS Majestic was a 74-gun third rate ship of the line, she fought at the Battle of the Nile, where she engaged the French ships Tonnant and Heureux, helping to force their surrenders.

Victorian Sea Gallantry Medal Large Bronze 1881. Awarded to Charles Southerden who was an assistant to the Rocket Party. The edge of the medal is engraved “CHARLES SOUTHERDEN WRECK OF THE “FRANC SICARD” ON THE 27TH NOVEMBER 1881”. Charles Southerden was awarded the medal for his part in the rescue of the crew of the French Lugger Franc Picard on the 27th November 1881, when she became stranded near the coastguard station of Jury’s Gap.
