A French ormolu-mounted Kingwood and Vernis Martin decorated bombé commodeRetailed by Forest, Paris, circa 1900, the reverse of the bronze mounts cast with the mark 'LM' The serpentine-shaped brèche d'Alep marble top above a frieze centred with a stylised shell and foliage, above a heart-shaped door painted with a couple and a companion, in 18th century dress, by a waterside with a swan, within a gilt and foliate decorated border, flanked by shaped scroll claps, the sides each with a quarter veneered panel, on square shaped squat feet, with foliate sabot, the top panel beneath the marble with a paper label printed 'FOREST / TAPISSERIE / EBENISTERIE / 33, rue de Provence / PAR..' and inscribed in ink '... / 1 Bahut / marbre'91 cm. wide; 105 cm. high; 52 cm. deep. Edward Barker (British, 1901-1984) bronze abstract wall hanging, the textured irregular circular form with inset and protruding spherical and elongated polished cabochons, angular tapered stem, unsigned, dimensions approximately 43cm by 15.5cm A larger similar sculpture by Edward Barker can be found in Delft, titled 'The Isthmus Landscape' Edward Barker gifted this bronze wall hanging to the vendor's mother, Elizabeth Brock. Elizabeth knew Edward through the Norwich 20 group, where they were both members, and made scultpures in Edward's studio in Newton Flotman
