A rare Jack Chalker ( British Born 1918 ) bronze bust study of a child being raised on a large wooden plinth. Bearing notation to the base for the Royal Bath & West Show exhibit No 67 Jack Chalker, who has died aged 96, was a British artist who drew and painted the atrocities he witnessed as a prisoner of war on the Burma-Siam Railway, also known as the “Death Railway”. Made famous by Pierre Boulle’s book (and David Lean’s film) The Bridge on the River Kwai, the railway is now a byword for war crimes. More than 12,000 Allied prisoners perished during its construction, along with at least 90,000 Asian labourers On Chalker’s release in 1945 he joined the Australian Army HQ in Bangkok as a war artist; some of his work was used in evidence at the Tokyo war trials. On his return to England he resumed his studies, graduating from the Royal College of Art in 1951. For more than a decade after his repatriation he could not sleep properly. Nor could he look at his drawings and paintings: it would take 40 years for him to take his works out of the box in which they were stored. In 1950, after teaching History of Art at Cheltenham Ladies’ College he became principal of Falmouth College of Art and, in 1957, principal of West of England College of Art, where he remained until his retirement in the mid-1980 Measures: 88cms high x 122cms wide x 9cms deep.
Rory Breslin (b.1963)Artemision Horse StudyBronze on marble plinth base, 71cm high x 74cm long x 28cm wide (28 x 29 x 11'')SignedWith white painted display pedestalEdition 1 of 3This sculpture is a study of the horse's head in one of the most popular and important displays in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, the bronze Horse and Jockey Group. The group was found in a shipwreck off Cape Artemision, in North Euboea, which was discovered in 1926. The first parts of the equestrian statue were recovered in 1928, with more pieces found in 1936 and possibly 1937. The statue was reassembled, and after restoration went on display at the Museum in 1972. The Horse and Jockey Group is special in being one of the few original large-scale bronzes securely dated to the Hellenistic period. It is approximately life-size in scale and consists of a horse in mid- gallop, on which is seated a youthful jockey, who looks back over his shoulder. The Horse and Jockey group is unusual in combining an athletic sculpture with an animal. The unknown sculptor of this masterpiece has captured the excitement and vitality of a horserace in mid-action. Some scholars have previously dated the group from the late fourth century B.C. to the first century B.C. The statues have been attributed previously to various sculptors, including Kalamis, Lysippos and the Pergamene school.

1948 Riley RM 2.5 Litre Drophead Coupe Conversion - Drophead Coupe conversion, body converted and restored in 2015 - Engine overhaul in May 2016 - Lovely open tourer ready to be enjoyed The RM Series cars were the last 'proper' Rileys - the swansong of the marque before it was subsumed into the mighty British Motor Corporation. The model range was manufactured in Coventry until 1949, when production moved to the MG factory at Abingdon. The RMA/RME were large Saloons powered by 1.5-litre four-cylinder engines, while the 7-inches longer RMB/RMF models featured twin-cam 2.5-litre units. The RMC and RMD were limited edition soft-tops. While the latter was a conventional two-door Drophead Coupe, the RMC was a two-door Roadster version of the RMB. The 2.5 litre four-cylinder powerplant produced some 100bhp and was also unusual in having twin pushrod-operated camshafts placed high in the cylinder block. The chassis number of the car offered today appears to denote it started life as an RMB saloon. The vendor advises JLV 906 was converted to drophead coupe coachwork in 2015, a new interior fitted, whilst a comprehensive engine overhaul was carried out in May 2016. Now resplendent in Bronze with Magnolia interior, this most handsome Riley is described as being in "fabulous condition" with "excellent" bodywork, interior and engine. Forming part of a private collection, we are informed it received a thorough check over in November 2016 at a cost of £1000. This must surely represent an ideal opportunity to acquire a wonderful looking four seater open Riley which will cruise at 80mph for much less than the price of an original.
