Large bronze plaque mounted on oak panel, Signed by the Sculpture AUGUST MAILLARD and dated 1923. Mailard was born 1864 Paris. Trained at the school of Fine Arts in Paris in the studio of Alexandre Falguiere. Subsequently, he became professor at the School of Fine Arts. He produced numerous busts and memorials of personalities, as well as medal and commemorative works for French towns, and he exhibited at the Salon of French Artists Society in 1885, at the Winter Fair in 1942, 1943 and 1944. He died during 'the fighting of the Liberation in 1944, hit by a stray bullet while he was on the threshold of his house Neuilly-sur-Seine.
