Both these were popular subjects for photographers resulting in similar photographs by contemporaries such as Felice Beato who is believed to have photographed the Great Buddha at least twice, in 1864 and 1868. Near-identical compositions to both these photographs can be seen in two Felice Beato photographs, c. 1868, at Wellcome Library nos. 569190i & 569186i.

FRANZ XAVIER BERGMANN (Austrian, 1861-1936); a good and large cold painted bronze cockerel with foundry mark bearing letter 'B' within urn and further stamped 'Geschütz 7018' to underside, height 31cm.Additional InformationThere are loose pieces to interior, a flaw to one of the smaller tail feathers to the rear of the model in the casting, so the tip is separate from the rest of the feather, missing the glass insets which would have originally have been in place for the eyes, some minor dents and knocks, light rubbing and general wear.

An interesting WW1 collection of 514713 Private Ferdinando Welch Smithers Harding, 14th London Scottish Regiment, comprising, Great War Medal and Victory Medal, named bronze 'Death Penny' Memorial Plaque, a silver and blue enamel 'London Scottish' sweetheart brooch, J. Hudson & Co 1916 'escargot' Trench Whistle with brown leather 'Sam Browne' lanyard, inscribed framed family photo and a fine copy of 'Portraits of Lloyd's Men whose names appear on Lloyd's War Memorial,' in which FWS Harding appears being one of the 216 men connected to Lloyds of London Insurance brokers who fell during the Great War, (Book condition: gilt-tooled blue leather boards with marbled endpapers, all block edges gilt, with the original addressed Lloyd's labelled box, pages bright and clean), various ephemera including Daily Mail 30th June 1919 WW1 'facts and figures' edition. The lot also contains a modern 'named copy' of a 1914 'Mons' Star to which Harding was not entitled having entered the field after the qualifying dates.

Zwischen den Schnauzen auf dem Körper Rippen, auf der Oberseite profilierter Ring um das Einfüllloch. Auf den großen Schnauzen zwei Ösen. Zwei Ketten an einem Halter aufgehängt, der ebenfalls mit Hilfe einer Kette mit dem Haken verbunden ist. Mit Originalrechnung! Etwas nachpatiniert, eine von den kleinen Schnauzen neu, einzelne Kettenelemente neu sowie ein Teil des Kettenhalters. Leicht trapezförmige Klinge mit flachbogiger Schneide und leichten Graten. Dunkelgrüne Patina, im Nacken gebrochen. Bronze winged axe. Bronze Age, 1100 - 800 B.C.
