FREDERIC MARÈS DEULOVOL (Portbou, Girona, 1893 - Barcelona, 1991)."Child", ca. 1925.Bronze sculpture.Signed on the base.Size: 28 x 12 x 23 cm.Frederic Marès trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Barcelona, later completing his studies abroad. Shortly after completing his training, he joined the teaching staff of that school, a task he did not abandon until his retirement in 1964. Marès' two main activities, that of sculptor and that of collector, frequently overshadowed his important teaching career, in which he came to share the directorship of the School of Fine Arts and the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Trades of Barcelona, and even combined them, for a brief period, with the presidency of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Marès began to work in the workshop of the modernist sculptor Eusebi Arnau, later becoming independent. He is currently represented in the museum that bears his name in Barcelona.

Larche's sculptural work oscillated between two styles, neo-baroque and modernist. After attending the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs, he was admitted to the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was a pupil of François Jouffroy, Auguste Dumont, Alexandre Falguière, Jean-Léon Gérôme and Eugène Delaplanche. He started at the Salon des Artistes in Paris in 1884 and exhibited regularly until 1911. In 1886, he won the second Grand Prix de Rome for sculpture. Larche's output includes various figures of Christ, although he is best known for his numerous female figures, be they knots or women in beautifully draped dresses. Larche was one of the many artists inspired by the dancer Loie Fuller. One of his best known works is a portrait of Fuller in one of her characteristic serpentine dance dresses. Another of his most famous pieces is the symbolist sculptural group entitled Les Violettes.
Spanish school, 20th century. Following models by KARL HAGENAUER (1898-1956)Bronze.Measurements: 57 x 46 x 6 cm.In this bronze sculpture, the author wanted to express the extreme lightness that the dancer's body assumes, giving it a filiform canon. The long open arms seem about to take flight and the slender legs form a triangle in the air, supporting the body in perfect equilibrium on the tip of one foot. The son of the goldsmith Carl Hagenauer, Karl studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts, where he was taught by Josef Hoffmann and Oskar Strnad and imbued with the spirit of the Wiener Wekstätte. After obtaining his diploma in architecture, he did military service between 1917 and 1919, and on his return he began to work as an architect and in his father's studio. During these years he created numerous pieces in silver, brass, copper, enamel, ivory, stone and wood. In 1928, after his father's death, he took over the management of the workshop and was responsible for the expansion of the firm, extending production to cabinetmaking and opening shops in Vienna and Salzburg. Since then he has exhibited his best pieces both in Austria and abroad, was twice awarded the gold medal at the Milan Triennale and was made a member of the Austrian Werkbund and the Werkstätte. His works are now in collections all over the world, including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the MoMA and the Jewish Museum in New York, the Casa Lis in Salamanca and many others.

Edward VII cast alloy figural golf trophy, modelled as a golfer in flat cap, buttoned sports jacket and plus-fours, captured in action at the end of his golf swing, on naturalistic grassy base engraved to the edge 'ROBERT SAWERS SILVERSMITH EDINBURGH', with applied silver plaque 'SHILLONG SEPT. 1904', [Shillong, India], 27cm highThere is a possibility that this is solid bronze, however parts of the figure have a slightly coppery lustre. There is no brown patina, and normally bronzes would be hollow cast The metal is a brassy yellow colour, and the overall weight is 4.5kg approx. The features do not look crisp enough to be bronze and so we felt that it may be an alloy of copper and brass.
