A Late 19th Century Louis XVI-Style Amaranth, Bois Satine, Oeil de Vermeil, Marquetry and Ormolu-Mounted Bureau Plat et Cartonnier, the desk with an inset green and gilt leather writing surface above six oak-lined drawers, one lock bearing stamp P Sormani, the end panels centred by lion mask mounts, on square tapering legs with acanthus-decorated mounts and brass-capped feet, the cartonnier surmounted by a brown patinated and gilt bronze figural clock surmounted by two putti, the porcelain dial signed Allard Paris, flanked by acanthus-decorated twin-branch candle holders above a parquetry-decorated stand, the cartonnier in two sections with a Greek Key gallery above an acanthus leaf and guilloche border with five open shelves below, the base with moulded panels, the end sections as cupboards with fluted stiles and on a breakfront platform base 102cm by 133cm by 190cm For a very similar example see Payne (Christopher) European Furniture of the 19th Century, pg.109Sotheby's, New York, 19th Century Furniture, including property formerly from the Palacio Ferreyra Argentine, 20th April, lot 236The Bureau Plat possibly by Jules Allard and the Cartonnier by Sormani Overall in good condition however, the leather top is worn in places with various areas of repair/colouring. Timber generally uniform colour, metal banding around the bureau plat and legs is rather tarnished. The bookcase section with some scuffs and scratches throughout particularly below the clock. The clock is striking on a bell but no clock keys. Lock missing from one of the cupboard doors. Some minor lifting of veneers in places, mainly on the cartonnier side panel.
