Collas Brevete' 46cm high, 60cm wideKnown as The Sleeping Ariadne, and also often identified as Cleopatra, this reclining figure is after the antique prototype dating from the late Hadrianic period (itself a copy of a 2nd century BC Greek prototype) housed in the Musei Vaticani, Rome. Condition Report: weight approximately 23kg. Surface is very dirty (see below)- there is evidence of wear to surface patina to extremities and small scuff to right hand shoulderProvenance; private collection Yorkshire. After his debut at the Salon de Bruxelles in 1842 public commissions followed including the statue of La Reine Louise-Marie at Phillipeville. Jaquet became professor of sculpture at the Académie des Beaux Arts de Bruxelles in 1863. The present model may be identifiable with the 'La première nuit d'exil d'Eve' which was exhibited in plaster at the Brussels Salon in 1848.Condition Report: With rubbing and heavy wear to patination from handling, use and cleaning.
