A 19th Century Stobwasser style papier-mâché circular panel, decorated with the heads of five people smoking and taking snuff, diameter approx 8.4cm, together with a porcelain oval panel, painted with a maiden, an enamel oval plaque, painted with a head and shoulders portrait of a lady, two paintings on mother-of-pearl, a printed oval glazed panel depicting a pavilion and four Canton mother-of-pearl counters (some faults).
A Continental porcelain rectangular plaque, early 20th Century, decorated with the Madonna and Child in polychrome enamels and heightened in gilt, approx 15cm x 10.3cm, and an oval porcelain plaque, decorated with a head and shoulders bust portrait of a lady wearing a lavender coloured dress, approx 10cm x 7.8cm.
A Royal Doulton stoneware Lord Nelson commemorative milk jug and matching sugar bowl, early 20th Century, each decorated on one side with a portrait of Lord Nelson and with a warship on the other, the neck inscribed 'England expects every man will do his duty', heights approx 8cm and 7cm, together with a collection of other Doulton stoneware, including two pairs of miniature vases, two condiments and another vase.

Considered a brilliant young student, he and his wife, the artist Cecilie Walton, were closely involved with the Edinburgh Society of Artists. Robertson moved from Edinburgh to Liverpool in the early 1920's, where he established himself as a portrait painter.

(1862-1923)Portrait of Kittystanding full length, wearing a white dress and hatoil on canvas72 1/2 x 40 in (184.2 x 101.7cm)Provenance: The artist's family, by descent; thence to the present vendor's familyIn this portrait Shannon's limited colour palette, thinly washed paint surface and flattened compositional space shows the influence of WhistlerThis full length portrait of Shannon's only child Kitty (1887-1974) can be compared with an 1897 full length portrait of her in the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh. A variant portrait of that was exhibited at The Royal Academy of Arts, Winter Exhibition 1928 no. 23 Shannon initially studied under Sir Edward Poynter Bt. PRA., and increasingly turned his attention to portraiture. He was a founding member of the Society of Portrait Painters in 1891. The purpose of this Society was to display and promote the variety of portraits available from a younger generation of portrait painters. Over the next few years Shannon's profile rose rapidly. Along with John Singer Sargent, and James Abbott McNeill Whistler, Shannon was considered by Munsey's Magazine in 1895 to be one of the three most 'distinguished American portrait painters to have flourished side by side in this generation among the mists and glooms of London'By the mid 1890's Shannon was at the height of his powers, elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1897. An American commentator of the time recorded 'As to Mr Shannon, his career in England has been simply phenomenal. Almost unknown three or four years ago he has, with his grace, elegance and refinement climbed to the very top of the ladder'
ATTRIBUTED TO CHARLES SHIRREFF (1750-1831)Portrait miniature of the Hon. Col. William Monson, wearing uniform, oval,1 1/2 x 1 1/4in (3.8 x 3.2cm)and two portrait miniatures of Gentlemen by other hands, circa 1790; three (3)Colonel Hon. William Monson (1760-1807) was the son of John Monson, 2nd Baron Monson of Burton. In January 1786 at Calcutta he married Anne Debonnaire, daughter of John Debonnaire, merchant of Lisbon and Calcutta. Soon after they sat for an important portrait by Arthur William Devis.First commissioned in the 52nd regiment in 1780 he proceeded to India. By 1785 rising to the rank of Captain. He commanded a light company of the 52nd at the attack on Seringapatam in the 1792 campaign against Tipu Sultan. In 1797 he transferred to the newly arrived 67th Regiment as Colonel. He particularly distinguished himself in the second Anglo-Maratha War bravely leading his troops at the Battle of Mukandwara Pass, also known as 'Monson's Retreat' 8-10th July 1804.After his return from India he became Member of Parliament for Lincoln 1806-1807.

She had met him two years previously while she had been attending the South Kensington School of Needlework.Florence was painted on a number of occasions by Shannon, at different periods of her life. Two portraits for instance in a private UK collection depict her in the years after her marriage; and as a young mother with her daughter Kitty. cf. also a portrait of Florence holding a guitar, c.1915, Christie's 7 July 2016, lot 10; and a Portrait of Florence c.1905 (on the New York art market, 2014)Throughout his career as an artist she provided a source of support and encouragement for her husband.James Jebusa Shannon was knighted in 1923. After his death, Florence (now Lady Shannon) actively promoted her late husband's work in the UK and the USA where she helped promote a memorial exhibition that toured to museums in Buffalo, Columbus, Cincinatti and Brooklyn
