A copy of the original catalogue to this sale accompanies this lot Note: John Thomas Young Gilroy was born in Newcastle and studied art there, before attending the Royal College of Art. He rose to fame as the artist who lead Guiness advertsing campaigns, notably the Toucan and other animals. In addition, he was a noted portrait painter who was particularly popular with the Royal Family. A Chelsea Arts Club member, Gilroy showed extensively at the Royal Academy and elsewhere.
