Rennie, Sir John. The Theory, Formation, and Construction of British and Foreign Harbours, 2 volumes, first edition, engraved portrait frontispiece and 122 engraved plates, charts and plans, very occasional slight spotting, titles and a few leaves with minor repairs to margins, leaf 3R misbound, 20th century half morocco, folio, London: John Weale, 1845 Sir John Rennie (1794-1874) was an engineer most noted for his design for the original London Bridge (opened 1831), and for his work for the admiralty which comprised the remodelling and construction of various harbours and dry docks. He was knighted in 1831 and became a member of the Institute of Civil Engineers in 1844. The present work on harbours is considered one of the most ambitious studies of the subject undertaken.

CONDITION REPORT: A couple of small holes, some other slight paint loss, needs re-stretching, possibly been re-lined in the past, probably been cleaned at some point in the past, the Florentine style gilt frame has been re-painted with gold paint in the not to distant past.
