ROBINSON EDWARD G.: (1893-1973) American Actor, Academy Award winner. Series of four T.Ls.S., Edward G. Robinson, each one page, small 4to, Beverly Hills, California and n.p., 15th December 1941 to 15th February 1944, all to Clyfford Trevor. In the first letter the actor thanks his correspondent for offering his services as an art consultant although explains that, `because of the present emergency, I have discontinued collecting for a while.` In the following letters Robinson states that he likes to make his own selections for his art collection and thanks him for photographs of Scene de Couloir au Palais by Jean Louis Forain (`…the painting is a fine example…`) and portraits by Vuillard and Segonzac (`If I didn`t already have a powerful Segonzac….I would be very much interested in "Ma Petite Cherie", which is a splendid picture. The portrait of Mlle. Germain Feydeau is a little too personal for my collection, as I have tried to concentrate on expressions that have universal concepts rather than individual`). VG, 4 Robinson was a noted art collector and when he died in 1973 left an estate valued at $2,500,000 which largely consisted of rare paintings. This was achieved despite having to sell many pieces from the collection in 1956 to fund a divorce settlement.
