SWANSON GLORIA: (1899-1983) American Actress. Vintage signed and inscribed 9 x 12 photograph, a captivating and atmospherically lit portrait of the actress with one hand raised to her face. Photograph by Clarence Sinclair Bull and bearing his blindstamp in the lower right corner. Signed in bold, dark fountain pen ink by Swanson across a clear area of the image. HAYWARD SUSAN: (1917-1975) American Actress, Academy Award winner for Best Actress in 1958 for her role as Barbara Graham in I Want to Live! Vintage signed 8 x 10 photograph, an engaging head and shoulders study of the dark haired actress wearing a plain black shoulderless gown. Hayward smiles warmly as she looks directly towards the camera. The original 1955 publicity portrait issued for the film I`ll Cry Tomorrow in which Hayward starred as Lillian Roth, a role for which she gained Best Actress Academy Award nomination in 1956. Signed in bold blue fountain pen across a light area at the centre of the image. Very detailed pencil notes in the hand of the collector to the verso indicate that the signature was obtained in person at the Sheraton-Carleton Hotel on 16th May 1959. BAKER STANLEY: (1928-1976) Welsh Actor. Vintage signed 10 x 8 photograph, a close-up portrait of Baker wearing a military beret in uniform in a scene from one of his films. PERTWEE JON: (1919-1996) English Actor, famous for his role as Doctor Who (1970-74). Series of three T.Ls.S., Jon Pertwee, each one page, 4to, Putney Heath, London, 21st February, 20th April & 5th November 1991, all to Pamela McGill. In the first letter Pertwee announces that he was fascinated to learn that his correspondent has the blue prints of H.M.S. Hood and adds that he would love to have them in his possession, `My agent lives in Liverpool, so would that be very far from you if I asked him to collect them?...What are the dimensions of the plans? I would also be most interested to know how they came into your possession.` In the second letter Pertwee writes to his correspondent asking why she has not responded to his earlier letter, `Was it something I said, or have the plans gone down with all hands like my old ship??` and in the third letter Pertwee again seeks a response from his correspondent regarding the blueprints. Also including a letter from Pertwee`s secretary on the same subject. Together with a signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph by Pertwee showing him in a close-up portrait pose. Signed in blue ink across a light area at the base of the image. Some very slight, minor creasing, generally VG, 4 Pertwee served as a Royal Navy officer and spent some time working in naval intelligence during World War II. He was a crew member of H.M.S. Hood, and was transferred off the ship shortly before she was sunk.
CULVER ROLAND: (1900-1984) British Actor, starred in the James Bond film Thunderball (1965). Vintage signed 8 x 10 photograph of Culver in a half length pose. The publicity portrait was issued for the play Five Finger Exercise. Signed in blue fountain pen ink with his name alone, largely across a clear area at the head of the image. VG
ARMSTRONG LOUIS: (1901-1971) American Jazz Trumpeter. Signed printed 8vo folding invitation card, being an invitation to meet Louis `Satchmo` Armstrong at a buffet luncheon and press conference organised by Jimmy and Betty Corrigan at the Variety Club, Batley, Yorkshire on 18th June n.y. Signed (`Louis Armstrong`) in black ink with his name alone to a clear area of the front cover above his portrait. Together with Bo Diddley (1928-2008) American Rock `n` Roll Singer and Guitarist. Signed 8 x 10 photograph of Diddley standing in a full length pose, resting one raised foot on the guitar at his side. Signed with his name alone in bold blue ink to a clear area of the background. TENNYSON ALFRED: (1809-1892) English Poet Laureate. D.S., A Tennyson, being a signed cheque, London, 3rd July 1871. The partially printed cheque, completed in Emily Tennyson`s hand, is drawn on the London & Westminster Bank and made payable to Mr. Andrews for the sum of £30. The cheque, as standard for the period, is cancelled by a single pen stroke which only slightly affects the signature. Neatly and lightly mounted to a 16 x 8.5 stiff white card alongside a small engraved portrait of the poet. VG
HARDY THOMAS: (1840-1928) English Novelist. A.L.S., T. Hardy, one page, 8vo, Max Gate, Dorchester, 22nd July n.y. (1892), to the publisher John Lane. Hardy informs his correspondent that he will be at Max Gate for sometime, `& I daresay shall be able to receive Mr. Strang in the course of a week or two.`, further explaining that he will write again when Lane has let him know the date at which it would suit Strang to come. Written on mourning stationery and with blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope hand addressed by Hardy. Very slight, minor age wear to the central fold, otherwise VG Hardy`s father had died two days earlier, on 20th July 1892. The artist William Strang (1859-1921) drew Hardy at Max Gate shortly after this letter was written. Lane published Strang`s work in The Art of Thomas Hardy by Lionel Johnson (1894) and the novelist himself remarked to Lane that, whatever "its fidelity or otherwise as a portrait" it seemed to him "an excellent specimen of Mr. Strang`s work".

* BRENDAN KELLY RP (Scottish b1970 - ) Self Portrait oil on board 23cm x 22cm Note : Brendan Kelly was born in Edinburgh in 1970. He studied at Camberwell College of Art 88-89(Foundation), and then at The Slade in London 89-93 (BA Hons Fine Art). He has won a number of National Art Awards, recently winning 2nd prize in the BP Portrait Award and the HSBC award for the best portrait by a young artist at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. Brendan Kelly is Head of Drawing and teaches painting at The Art Academy. In 2005 he was elected as the youngest member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
