The painting has been re laid to a modern board. The attribution to Sir Henry Bedingfeld has been made owing to the remarkable likeness to a later known portrait; noting in particular the characteristics of the eyes, nose and ears. The picture could possibly be attributed to Steven van der Meulen/literature see STRONG, The English Icon, Elizabethan and Jacobean Portraits 1968, page 127
