GARRICK DAVID: (1717-1779) English Actor. A.L.S., D Garrick, two pages, 4to, Naples, n.d. (`Fryday Morning`; c.1763-65), to Monsieur Kaye in Rome. Garrick states that he has received his correspondent`s letter and `shall take great care of the Commissions that you have honoured me with` adding that he hopes to be in Rome shortly, `We hope to kiss yr. hands on Tuesday evening & tho we have no good prospect from the weather we are in the best spirits in spite of want of bread.` In a postscript the actor remarks `Two English gentlemen arrived last night from Rome`. With integral address leaf bearing the remnants of a red wax seal featuring a bust portrait. Some light overall age wear, about VG Garrick made the Grand Tour during 1763-65 visiting Paris, Turin, Milan, Florence, Rome, Naples (where he stayed for three months), Venice and Munich.
WAYNE JOHN: (1907-1979) American Actor, Academy Award winner. A good vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Wayne in a head and shoulders pose. The original Paramount Pictures publicity portrait dates from 1961 and was released to promote Wayne`s role as Sean Mercer in the film Hatari! Signed in bold blue fountain pen ink across a clear area of the image, `Good Luck John, John Wayne`. One very slight, minor surface crease, VG
HULL JOSEPHINE: (1883-1957) American Actress, Academy Award winner. Rare vintage signed and inscribed postcard photograph, being a reproduction of a head and shoulders portrait of the actress by the artist Dorothy McMillan. Signed by Hull in dark fountain pen ink to the lower white border, `To Richard Erickson, with best wishes, Josephine Hull` adding `Harvey` and the date 1947 in her hand. Some small pinholes to the corners and edges of the white borders and some light scuffing to the right edge, G Hull won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Veta Louise Simmons in the 1950 film Harvey. She had originally played the character on the Broadway stage.
REED DONNA: (1921-1986) American Actress, Academy Award winner. Vintage signed and inscribed sepia 8 x 10 photograph of Reed standing in a half length pose. The original M-G-M publicity portrait is for the film Green Dolphin Street (1947). Signed in dark fountain pen ink, partially across a darker area of the image although still legible. VG
CHANDLER JEFF: (1918-1961) American Actor. Vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Chandler in a half length pose with his arms folded. The original Columbia Pictures publicity portrait dates from 1958. Signed in bold blue fountain pen ink across a light area of the image, `Iris-Many thanks for your friendship! Jeff`. Together with a signed 8 x 10 photograph by Laurence Olivier showing him in a head and shoulders pose in costume from The Boys from Brazil and a signed 7 x 9.5 reproduction image by Alec Guinness showing him in a scene from A Majority of One opposite Rosalind Russell. MONROE MARILYN: (1926-1962) American Actress & Sex Symbol. An excellent, bold blue ink signature (`Marilyn Monroe`) on a page contained in an autograph album. A small magazine portrait of Monroe is affixed with four small pieces of sellotape to the lower right corner. The page is signed to the verso by Arthur Miller in blue ink with his name alone. The autograph album also includes a few other signatures by various actors and entertainers including George Baker, Frankie Howerd, Margaret Lockwood, Sydney Tafler, Shirley Bassey etc. VG Arthur Miller (1915-2005) American Playwright who was married to Marilyn Monroe from 1956-61.
TERRY-THOMAS: (1911-1990) British Comic Actor. Vintage signed and inscribed 9 x 7 photograph, a close-up portrait of the comedian in a typical pose smoking a cigarette. Signed in bold purple ink across a light area of the image, `Cheers Ron! Terry-Thomas, 1967` adding the words Red Skelton Show in his hand beneath his signature. PIUS X POPE SAINT: (1835-1914) Pope of the Catholic Church 1903-14. Apostolic Blessing Signed, Pius PP X, one page, small 4to, Vatican, 26th June 1907. The Apostolic Blessing, in Italian, states, in full, `To Our Beloved Son, Josephe Alexandro Sanfermo, Apostolic Pronotario and Holy Patriarch of the Liberian Basilica, Canon, in his fiftieth year, having successfully completed many happy and fruitful years of prayer to the Lord, we grant the Apostolic Blessing with great love`. With blank integral leaf. A feint official red rubber stamp appears in the lower half of the page, not affecting the text or signature. The paper, by Fabriano, features two beautiful watermarks, one a portrait of the Pope and the other a coat of arms. VG

WARHOL ANDY: (1928-1987) American Pop Artist. Signed album record sleeve, to the verso, being the sleeve for Paul Anka`s album The Painter, featuring Warhol`s colour portrait of Paul Anka. Signed by Warhol with his name alone in bold black ink, largely across a clear area. Matted in cream and framed and glazed in a plain black wooden frame (some wear) to an overall size of 17 x 17. VG
ADDAMS CHARLES: (1912-1988) American Cartoonist, creator of The Addams Family. A good, original black pen and ink drawing signed, Chas Addams, on an oblong 12mo index card, n.p., n.d. Addams has drawn a head and shoulders portrait of Lurch, the fictional butler created by the cartoonist as a manservant to the Addams Family. Signed in bold black ink immediately to the right of the drawing. EX
BLYTON ENID: (1897-1968) British Children`s Writer. Blue ink signature (`Enid Blyton`) on a printed oblong 12mo sheet featuring a portrait of Blyton, inscribed in another hand. Laid down to a page of an autograph album which also includes a ruled piece signed by entertainer Bing Crosby, laid down to the recto of Blyton`s page. Some light age wear, G
GIORDANO UMBERTO: (1867-1948) Italian Composer. Vintage signed and inscribed 4 x 6 postcard photograph, being a reproduction of an artist`s pencil portrait of the composer. Signed in bold blue fountain pen ink to a light area at the base of the image and dated in his hand to a light area at the head of the image, Bologna, 1st June 1934. VG
ABERDEEN EARL OF: (1784-1860) British Prime Minister 1852-55. A.L.S., Aberdeen, two pages, 8vo, Argyll House, 9th May 1837, to Sir Martin [Archer Shee]. Aberdeen states that he has been requested by Lady Harewood, who is infirm, to find out if there is an opportunity for her to obtain admission to an exhibition on a Sunday, explaining that Sir Thomas Lawrence had previously accommodated his requests. In concluding Aberdeen remarks that Lady Harewood `is a warm admirer of the art…[and]…is also no mean artist herself.` VG. . . . . Sir Martin Archer Shee (1769-1850) British Portrait Painter and President of the Royal Academy (1830-50).

KENNEDY JOHN F.: (1917-1963) American President 1961-63. An 8vo printed menu and programme for a Pre-Election Dinner held by the Easton Democratic City Committee in honour of Senator John F. Kennedy at the Hotel Easton [Easton, Pennsylvania] on 30th October 1957. Signed in blue ink by Kennedy with his name alone to a clear area of the cover alongside his portrait. Some very light, minor age wear, otherwise VG Provenance: Accompanied by a typed letter of authenticity signed by Cathi Brandt, dated 18th March 2011, stating that her grandfather, Thomas J. Marcellus, of the Easton Pennsylvania Police Department, obtained the signature in person at the dinner.
PERON EVA: (1919-1952) First Lady of Argentina 1946-52. D.S., Eva Peron, one page, 8vo, Buenos Aires, 11th January 1952, in Spanish (untranslated), relating to Fermin Lurbe. Double matted in cream alongside a reproduction portrait and framed and glazed in a plain black frame to an overall size of 18 x 14. Together with Juan Peron (1895-1974) President of Argentina 1946-52, 1973-74. D.S., Peron, one page, folio, Buenos Aires, 4th January 1945, on the printed stationery of the Secretary of the Ministry of War, in Spanish (untranslated). The document is addressed to the Director General of Personnel and relates to Juan Carlos del Busto. Some file holes and small tears to the left edge, not affecting the text or signature. G to VG, 2
