Scuola lombarda, XVIII secolo Ritratto di Crostoforo Quadrio di Tirano Olio su tela, cm 113x89 Note Il dipinto ritrae il nobile don Cristoforo Quadrio, dottore in utroque jure e documentato luogotenente del podestà grigione di Tirano (SO) nel 1703, appartenente al ramo locale dell’antica e prolifica casata comasco-valtellinese, discendente diretto del condottiero visconteo Stefano milite (1376-1438). Era il suo, il più illustre dei numerosissimi rami dei Quadrio valtellinesi, sovente già allora decaduti: il nostro personaggio discende infatti dal fratello di quell’Antonio Maria Quadrio che fu nel 1550 creato da Carlo V conte di Colico e signore di Isola, titoli in cui successero in linea femminile agli Alberti di Bormio e Trento, tramite la di lui figlia Maddalena, moglie del cavaliere aurato Niccolo’ II Alberti. In particolare, egli era figlio del dominus Giacomo Maria Quadrio di Tirano e della consanguinea Apollonia del fu Cristoforo Quadrio di Ponte, sposati nel 1666, e si accasò con donna Giuditta del fu Azzo Parravicini di Traona, esponente di uno dei principali rami valtellinesi dell’antica stirpe capitaneale milanese. L’elevato status dei Quadrio tiranesi ed i loro rapporti con la Valcamonica possono lasciare ipotizzare che il pittore appartenga all’area bresciana-bergamasca, piuttosto che trattarsi di artista locale. Scuola lombarda, inizio XIX secolo Ritratto del cardinale Filippo Maria Vistonti (1720-1801) Olio su tela, cm 128,5x92 Reca iscrizione in basso a destra: D Phil Visconti Masini Dominus Mediolani Anno [omini] obiit 1801 dic Note Filippo Maria Visconti dei signori di Massino, come recita l’iscrizione latina alla base del nostro ritratto, fu eletto arcivescovo di Milano, dopo esser stato nominato prevosto del capitolo metropolitano nel 1793, su designazione di Giuseppe II, nell’anno successivo, da Pio VI. Egli era nato a Massino Visconti nel 1720 dal nobile don Orlando (+ 10 giugno 1760), ascritto al Collegio dei Giureconsulti milanese nel 1704, e da Isabella d’Antonio Bendoni. Pompeo Litta Biumi (1781-1852), nel proprio Famiglie Celebri Italiane (Milano, 1809-53), fa discendere (Visconti di Milano, tav. XIX) il di lui ramo - che dice estinto nel 1802, ma da cui fa rampollare più rami decaduti - da un Ottorino, investito dal Vescovo di Novara delle decime di Castelletto e Ornavasso il 7 settembre 1307, e da una Biccia, amante del famigerato Marco Visconti di grossiana memoria e da questi fatta uccidere; sia lo zio che il prozio del nostro arcivescovo avevano già ricoperto la carica di prevosto del capitolo metropolitano, e, dei suoi cinque fratelli, ben quattro abbracciarono la carriera ecclesiastica. Morì il 30 dicembre 1801 a Lione, ivi invitato da Napoleone per prender parte ai Comizi. Un suo ritratto a figura intera, opera di Paolo Borroni (1749-1819), allievo milanese del Batoni, è conservato nella quadreria dell’Ospedale Maggiore, ove pure si conserva il doppio ritratto postumo (1803), opera di Giovanni Battista Perabò (1768-1805), che ritrae l’alto prelato assieme al fratello Giovanni Battista (+ 29 novembre 1802), teatino. Possiamo ipotizzare che l’opera qui presentata, a mezza figura, possa essere replica di un pittore dell’ambito di Paolo Borroni eseguita per i congiunti dell’arcivescovo, come potrebbe far ritenere l’evidenza data allo stemma visconteo che orna la legatura alle armi impugnata in bella mostra dal prelato.
