Agrippa (Henricus Cornelius). Three Books of Occult Philosophy. Translated out of the Latin into the English Tongue, by J. F.[rench], Printed by R. W. for Gregory Moule, 1651, folding woodcut table of characters preceding M2. (torn without loss, and mounted), numerous woodcuts of cabalistic signs and diagrams, lacks the portrait of Agrippa (another inserted in its place), and the 12. pages of Index at the end, text browned and damp-stained, some worming, a few leaves detached and frayed, old sheep, rubbed, lacks backstrip, upper cover detached, 8vo. First English Edition of Agrippa's "De occulta philosophia", originally published 1533. Wing. A. 789. Ferguson, Bibliotheca Chemica, I p.13. (1)
Bulwer (John). Anthropometamorphosis: Man Transform'd: or, the Artificial Changling Historically presented. with a Vindication of the Regular Beauty and Honesty of Nature, [Printed by William Hunt, 1653], an incomplete copy, lacking all 4 leaves of sig. A, including the title-page; the frontis; the portrait of the author; the inserted leaf after 52; Zzz 4; and Gggg 1. and 4, being a leaf of Table, and the final advert. leaf, but still with numerous woodcut illusts. in the text, text browned almost throughout, and soiled, a few marginal tears, 18th c. calf, rubbed, small 4to. The second, but first illustrated edition, "the subject and abundant illustrations of this volume make it a desideratum in any collection of curiosa, for it describes and illustrates every conceivable alteration of the human body by man's design or by nature": Pforzheimer 115. The work was reissued in the following year with a new title-page. Wing B.5461. (or possibly B.5470). (1)

Circle of James Ramsay (1786-1854) 29 1/4in. x 24 1/2in. (74.5 x 62cm) A bust portrait of the distinguished Tyneside artist and engraver Thomas Bewick (1753-1828) wearing a brown coat and a white cravat, c.1815, after the original portrait in the collection of the Natural History Society of Northumbria, exhibited Royal Academy 1816 and owned by Bewick's Family, later bequeathed to the Society in 1883.
An ornate gilt picture frame moulded with flowerheads acanthus leaves and beadwork designs enclosing a portrait of a lady [signed "La Fayette Ltd"] and in turn set within a glass fronted mahogany display case, gilt frame 27 cms. x 23 cms. overall, together with a pair of framed prints of stagecoaches.
