Sophie Anderson LITTLE BO PEEP monogrammed lower right SA, signed on reverse Sophie Anderson oil on canvas, 29.5cm x 25cm (11.5" x 9.75") Sophie Anderson née Gengembre was born in Paris, the daughter of an eminent French architect and his English wife. In the mid 19th Century, the family moved to the United States and Sophie became a successful portrait painter. She met and married her husband Walter Anderson and in 1854 they moved to England, setting up home in Hackney. There is no information as to whether they had children, but the child in this picture bears a striking resemblance to the child (thought to be their daughter) in Sophie Anderson`s paintings "No Walk Today", "Tying the Shoelace", "Windfall" and "Ladybird Ladybird"
