Pavel Tchelitchew, 1898-1957 PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST'S SISTER pencil and gouache on paper 62 by 46cm.; 24.5 by 18in. Executed in1925. Tchelitchew is probably best known for his famous portrait of Edith Sitwell that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery in London along with his extraordinary ballet designs commissioned by Diaghilev and Balanchine. This tender portrait of his devoted sister Choura was painted in 1925 shortly after his arrival in Paris. It was included in the 1995 exhibition The Sitwells at the National Portrait Gallery.
