Theodore Williams, lower covers with central arms, some scuffing and marking, rubbed, folio, Frankfurt, for Zacharias Härtel, 1652.⁂ An attractive set of these commentaries on the Four Gospels. Provenance: Rev. Theodore Williams (1785-1875), Vicar of Hendon, who amassed a magnificent library and commissioned the finest binders of his time, including Derome, Payne, Charles Lewis, and John Clarke. He sold the library in 1827 (gilt monograms to bindings).

The Ricciardetto had some influence on Byron in the writing of Beppo: A Ventian Story, written in Venice in 1817. Provenance: Princess Giuseppina di Lorena (ink inscription to front free endpaper of vol.1).

The party returned home as popular heroes and Maxwell was knighted for his service.
