RACKHAM, Arthur, two early original pencil sketches: 'Horning Ferry' and 'Portrait of a Gentleman' (2) These are early sketches and quite possibly relate to the period when Rackham had work commission by the publishers, Carson and Comerford. The sketches are mounted and framed, but do not appear to be signed. The provenance for these items is from his daughter, Barbara Rackham, who sold her father's effects through Phillips Auctioneers of Bayswater (now part of Bonhams Auctioneers) on 4 May 1990. The Phillips auction lot descriptions remain attached to the back of each portrait.

Bound in half leather with gilt ruling to spine and gilt lettered label. CONDITION: Repair to one plate; o/w vg. In 1825 Richard succeeded his father as 3rd Baron Braybrooke, assumed the name of Griffin, and at the same time removed the chief family seat from Billingbear Park, near Wokingham in Berkshire, to Audley End in Essex which had been left to his father in 1798 by his distant relative, Lord Howard de Walden. CONDITION REPORT: Some foxing.
