Quinziano Stoa (Giovanni Francesco) De Syllabarum quantitae epographiae sex, collation: A-B8, C6, A-Q8, R10; [22], cxxxviii ff., woodcut portrait of the author on title, decorated initials, early ink annotations, worming to first 16 leaves, affecting text, contemporary boards alla rustica, fragments of re-used manuscript or printed leaves to pastedowns, spine worn and defective, numerous wormholes to covers, 4to (200 x 155mm.), Venice, Guglielmo de Monteferrato, June 1519. ⁂ Rare early edition of this popular Latin grammar by Giovanni Francesco Conti (1484-1557), which first appeared in Pavia in 1511. The author, better known under his humanistic name, Quinziano Stoa, was a disciple of the grammarian Giovanni Britannico, and taught Rhetoric and Greek at the University of Pavia. The title-page bears a fine woodcut depicting the author writing at his desk. Andrew Vicari (1932-2016), Portrait of a lady, signed, oil on board, 120.5 x 90.5cm, 47.5 x 35.5in. Artists' Resale Right ("droit de suite") may apply to this lot. Condition Report: The painting is in very good, original condition. There appears to be white spots of mould across the surface of the painting. The painting is framed but not glazed. The frame has the odd scuff and knock commensurate with age.
Reginald Granville Eves, R.A. (1876-1941), Portrait of a seated gentleman, signed and dated 1935, oil on canvas, 75 x 62cm, 29.5 x 24.5in. Condition Report: The painting is in good, original condition. There is one small dint to the surface of the painting in the lower left corner with minor surrounding paint loss. The painting is framed but not glazed. The frame has the odd minor knock and loss commensurate with age.
Herbert St. John Jones (1872-1939), "Bob" - portrait of a terrier, signed and dated 1901, oil on canvas, 44 x 39cm, 17.25 x 15.25in. Condition Report: The painting is in fair, restored condition. There is craquelure and blistering of the paint across the whole painting which has resulted in chips of paint loss and subsequent overpainting. There is also a tear and consequent surrounding paintloss in the centre of the painting. The painting is framed but not glazed.
William Albert Clark (fl.1906-1937), "Moorland Chieftain" - portrait of a Shorthorn bull, signed and dated 1919, titled on gilt slip, oil on canvas, 49.5 x 60cm, 19.5 x 23.5in. Condition Report: The painting is in fair, original condition. There is fine craquelure across the surface of the painting and this has resulted in some minor flecks of paint loss, most notably in the sky area. There is a tear in the canvas on the right hand side of the painting. The stretcher mark is visible along the top edge of the painting. The painting is framed but not glazed. The frame has the odd knock and loss commensurate with age.
English School, early 19th century, Portrait of a seated gentleman, unsigned, oil on canvas, 73.5 x 61cm, 29 x 24in. Condition Report: The painting is in good, restored condition. Under UV light there are areas of over painting visible. There is some minor craquelure across the surface of the painting and bitumen deformation visible most notably in the lower half of the painting. Stretcher marks are visible around the edges of the canvas. The painting is framed but not glazed. The frame has some knocks and losses commensurate with age.
Neale & Co. Agate ware vase circa 1780, with twin mask handles supporting swags which surround a portrait medallion and floral boss, 14cm high Condition report: lacking cover and possibly a base. No restoration. Minor glaze faults and wear to the white areas, outside this there are no damages.
A George II tortoiseshell oval snuff box, moulded hinged cover with a skirted frieze, enclosing a half-length portrait of La Signora, from the Commedia dell'arte, smoking a pipe by table of arranged porcelain, dished gilt-brass interior cast and chased with a foliate border, scroll thumbpiece, slightly skirting base, 9cm wide, c. 1740
