He rose to prominence in 1940 as Minister for Bricks and, in 1941, became Director for Works, which involved the overseeing of hospitals, airfields, ordnance factories and prisoner of war camps. Mary Edis continued to paint and one of her portraits is in the National Portrait Gallery.

Circle of Matthew Snelling, British 1621-1678, a portrait miniature depicting a gentleman quarter-length with lace doublet and black coat turned to the right, oval, in a glazed carved oval ebony frame, 5x4cm CONDITION REPORT: The frame in good condition with later applied base metal bales top centre paint support has dropped in the frame and top edge is visible this top edge is a little irregular in profile no over-painting or retouching visible under inspection with uv lamp some slight surface blistering to the paint surface in the hair left and right otherwise very good condition
After Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn, Dutch 1606-1669, late 18th/early 19th century- Self Portrait; oil on panel, 31x25.5cm Provenance: purchased on 24.6.43 from Willis's Rooms, King Street, St James', lot 147 according to the label attached to the reverse of the panel. This painting is a copy of the original held by the Uffizi in Florence dating from c.1633-34. CONDITION REPORT: gilt composition frame circa early-mid 19th century with large amount of losses to the moulding frame has key construction panel not warped the paint surface is blistering and starting to flake along a vertical axis throughout the picture there are more pronounced blistering along the lower edge and lower left and right, top right and along the left hand edge under inspection with uv lamp there is evidence of cleaning on the face, the collar and the lower right there are remains of the original varnish elsewhere over all in fair to good condition will require some restoration
John Pettie RA, Scottish 1839-1893- Portrait of the artist Francis Wilfred Lawson, quarter-length turned to the left holding a palette; oil on canvas, signed and dated 1889, 16.5x31cm CONDITION REPORT: in a 19th century gilt oak moulding frame canvas has been relined circa late 19th century on what appears to be the original stretcher with six original wedges and two replacements ragged salvage edges the salvage is stuck down to the stretcher with folded newspaper wedges between stretcher and frame with rectangular thin balsa wood 10x12.2cm adhered to the upper area of the canvas reverse with pronounced raised curvilinear craquelure throughout especially over the sitters face with bar marks under inspection with UV lamp there is re-touching and over-painting on the cheek and mouth of the sitter overall in fair-good condition

A copy of the receipt accompanies this lot. Acquired by Leon Suddaby directly from the family of the artist. Note: The model depicted in this painting is traditionally held to be Marion Coles who had a son by the artist.

In 1997, Day was a finalist for the BP Portrait Award. In October 2014 Day was a selected finalist for the Dulwich Picture Galleries 60th Friends exhibition. Day also paints West End theatre backdrops with Mr Andrew Greenfield. Shows that he has painted for include 'Grease' and the 'Royal Variety Show' among many other shows.
Bloomsbury School, early-mid 20th century- Study of a gentleman seated in an interior; oil on canvas, 38x46cm Note: On the far upper right of this composition is depicted Roger Fry's Copy of a Self-Portrait by Cézanne, 1927. CONDITION REPORT: in a painted wooden moulding frame, early-mid 20th century reverse of the frame with recently applied brown tape with wooden stretcher the canvas has not been re-lined the support is comprised of two horizontal sections of linen joined together on the verso there is a small section of salvage standing proud where these two sections of canvas are joined together on the recto there is a horizontal groove visible left to right across the width of the paint surface this mark travels at the level of the upper point of the crook of the sitter's elbow under inspection with uv lamp there is no evidence of retouching or restoration the paint surface looks to have been re-varnished in recent years otherwise good original condition
Marjorie V O Morris, British fl.1931-35- "Mrs Thomas Morris"; oil on canvas, signed and dated 1932, titled, signed and inscribed Royal Academy 1932 on the stretchers reverse, 60x51cm, (unframed) (may be subject to Droit de Suite) Note: This portrait was exhibited at the Royal Academy, London, no. 29, 1932. Morris is also documented as exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1931 and 1935. Provenance: From the art collection at the former St Gabriel's College, Camberwell. St Gabriel's was a Church of England teacher training college, founded in 1899 and closed in 1978. Its Art Department attracted talented teachers and artists whose vocation was to inspire young teachers through studying and imitating the work of great artists. The paintings and drawings in this collection were collected by the College's staff through donations and purchases during the interwar and post-war periods. After the College's closure, the collection was transferred to the ownership of an educational trust and until recently loaned to Goldsmith's University of London. CONDITION REPORT: unframed not relined on what appears to be the original stretcher inscribed in pen on the stretcher "Mrs Thomas Morris/Royal Academy 1932//by M V O Morris" canvas reverse bearing stamp for "R.A. Student Ccanvas/ C. Robesson & Co Ltd/166 Picadilly, London" with 1.5cm of salvage around all edges recto with worn edges and corners with various surface scuff marks throughout with a bar mark from the lower stretcher with a concave dent approx. 5mm in diameter within the wall to the left of the sitter overall in good condition

Lena Pilichowski (Pillico), Polish 1884-1947- Portrait of an officer, quarter-length; watercolour, signed, 70x51cm: together with two other portrait studies and a floral study in watercolour by the same hand, 77x56cm., 69x53cm and 57x39cm., (4) (unframed) Note: Lena Pillico was the wife of the Polish artist Leopold Pilichowski, 1869-1934. She was a member of The Seven and Five Society 1920-1935 along with Ben Nicholson and Henry Moore
