Walter Crane (1845-1915) - British artist and illustrator - a hand written letter to Mr Ionides, it reads: 'Beaumont Lodge, Shepherds Bush.W, March 4th 1884. Dear Mr Ionides, Would you feel inclined to represent Julius II Pont Max in my group in the 'Historical Procession' at our costume ball on May 1st? You know the costume in Raphael's portrait. It is dignified and ?. I hope you may see your way to acceding to my request, and I would try to get you some Swiss Guards. Perhaps your sons would fancy the costume? I enclose a circular giving particulars of the King. Mrs Ionides would make a good Madonna Lisa after the Leonardo portrait, if she would consent? One small brown mark in front of the face and to the outstretched arm. Frame with a knock at top. Overall appearance good.

A pair of circa 1900 Continental cranberry glass and gilt metal mounted vases and cover, the covers each as fighting warriors each with four applied carved shell cameo portrait roundels (a/f), h.13cm Condition Report / Extra Information First example - gilt metal base has come loose from bottom of vase and can be easily separated, metalwork complete but worn/tarnished throughout, ball feet on base have been bent out of place, glass good.Second example - figural cover finial has come loose and can be removed, one cameo with two vertical cracks (top to bottom), another cameo with two short horizontal cracks, metalwork complete but tarnished and worn throughout, base misshapen therefore does not stand well, glass good.
