Attributed to AUGUSTUS JOHN R.A. (1878 - 1961) Unframed, signed, pencil on paper. Sketch of a man in profile, inscribed `E. Lutyens`. Believed to be a portrait of the British architect Edwin Lutyens (1869 - 1944) John is known to have painted a further portrait of Edwin Lutyens, which was exhibited in 1917. Together with documentation relating to provenance from The National Library of Wales, Tenby Museum and Art Gallery and the Tate Britain. 20cm x 12.5cm.
A collection of letters by Welsh painter AUGUSTUS JOHN (1878 - 1961) Ten are signed `Augustus John`, two signed `Augustus`, and one unsigned, all written to art collector, Stephen Teltch, dated between February 1960 and August 1961. The content relates to both his own work and that of Teltch`s `God-child`, whom Teltch has asked him to view. Together with a letter by DORELIA JOHN (1881 - 1969) One page, signed, written also to Stephen Teltch, apologising for not thanking him for the brandy he sent John and herself and a letter by English painter JOSETTE JONES (1894 - 1989) Three pages, signed `Jo`, written to `Emo`, apologising for a previous letter from Augustus. Josette was a pupil of both Augustus John and Walter Sickert, and an unframed, photograph of Augustus John beside his self portrait on exhibition at the Tooth Gallery. Inscribed on label verso his obituary. Stamped twice verso by Keystone Press agency Ltd.

Rubens/ ne a Siegen 1577/ mort a Anvers 1640.` Flemish Baroque painter, Cornelis de Vos worked on a number of occasions in collaboration with Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640). This included an order by Rubens to assist in the completion of twelve royal portraits, in 1635, fro the purpose of the joyous entry of Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand. 124cm x 100cm.

High Quality Field Marshal Smuts South Africa Leader Signed Watercolour 1945 by Alex Statters: Jan Christian Smuts, OM, CH, ED, KC, FRS, PC (24 May 1870 – 11 September 1950) was a prominent South African and British Commonwealth statesman, military leader and philosopher In addition to holding various cabinet posts, he served as Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa from 1919 until 1924 and from 1939 until 1948. He served in the First World War and as a British field marshal in the Second World War. Fine Portrait showing him in Full Uniform boldly signed below comes with Letter dated 3rd December 1945 from Smuts Private Secretary thanking him and signing the watercolour and returning it image having mount ready for framing 41 x 31cm. Alex Statters was born in the early 1890s and after a working life in Newcastle settled in Southport, Merseyside. It is thought he died in the early 1960s.

CIRCLE OF GEORGE ROMNEY (1734-1802) Portrait of a Lady, traditionally identified as Elizabeth, Countess of Craven (1750-1828) quarter-length, wearing a green dress a terrace beyond oil on canvas 30 1/2 x 25 1/2in (77.7 x 65.6cm) Elizabeth, Countess of Craven, was a noted author , playwright and traveller. She mixed in literary circles and knew Samuel Johnson and Horace Walpole who published some of her plays. In 1783 she caused a scandal by abandoning her husband to go travelling in Italy, eastern Europe and the Near East. She later married and returned to England with a German Prince, the Margrave of Anspach. She was painted by a number of artists of the time, including Ozias Humphry and George Romney, R.A.

AGOST ELEK CANZI (1813-1866) Portrait of a Lady, seated three-quarter length, wearing a white dress, and blue wrap inscribed and dated `Canzi, Paris, 1834` oil on panel 12 x 9 1/4in (30.5 x 23.5cm) A label on the reverse bears an inscription identifying the sitter as` Mrs Mackintosh, `daughter of Mr and Mrs Mackintosh`. An Austrian by birth, Canzi was studying in Paris under Ingres in 1834. Later he worked in Stuttgart and Vienna, before moving to Budapest.
AFTER SIR PETER LELY (1618-1680) Portrait of Letitia Smith, Lady Robartes, later Countess of Radnor ( ,c.1630-1714) seated three-quarter length wearing a pale grey taffeta dress, and blue robes, adorned with pearls, with a golden brown shoulder shawl, a red burgundy curtain beyond oil on canvas 48 x 40in (122.1 x 101.6cm) The sitter was the daughter of Sir John Smith of Bidborough, Kent. She married in 1646/7 as his second wife John Robartes, 1st Earl of Radnor (1606-1685), Speaker of the House of Lords and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. Several other portraits of the sitter are recorded .A portrait of her in an identical pose by Sir Peter Lely and studio is at Lanhydrock, Cornwall. Other versions are known at Weston Park, Shropshire ; Cummer Art Gallery, Jacksonville, Florida ; and in the collection of the Earl of Dunraven.
