HULL MERCHANT: A large miniature oval watercolour portrait of an amiable looking gent, in contemporary ebonised frame with gilt slip and convex glass. Signed .C. Jolin... (end of signature obscured by slip). Size, exclusive of frame, 6 x 5 inches. ca.1820. Inscribed in pencil to reverse Great Grandfather Boyle (Hull). Together with, contained in a contemporary varnished tin case, 5 family letters (Barton Vicarage, Wolvehampton, & Hull, 1826-1837) and a leather wallet containing family notes which refer perhaps to the subject of the above portrait as a native of Hull and engaged in business as a ships chandler.
