Napoleonic Wars: an interesting pair of hand-coloured satires, one with a ‘Hieroglyphic’ portrait of Napoleon inscribed beneath with detail of his atrocities and a parody of assumed titles, published by Ackermanns, the other similarly depicting Alexander 1st (Tsar of Russia) and detailing beneath his achievements and support, published by J. Johnston, both circa 1814 and framed, 516mm x 316mm (2)(commemorative, pottery, naval, military, war).* Napoleon’s hat is shown as an eagle representing Prussia after the image by Johann Michael Voltz, published on 1st January 1814.This in turn, was after the portrait by H.A. Dahling, painted in Berlin in 1806.Such satires were widely produced and circulated during the Napoleonic wars to raise awareness of the potential of invasion and war.

Sir Francis Burdett: a small pearlware mug banded in silver lustre and printed in black with a named portrait, circa 1810, 61mm, hairline crack(commemorative, pottery, political, parliament, election).* Burdett, member of Parliament for Westminster, was committed to the Tower on 6th April 1810.
Spencer Percival: a rare potter portrait bust on integral pedestal base, circa 1812, 187mm, small chip to bottom lip(commemorative, pottery, political, parliament, election).* Percival became Prime Minister on 4th October 1809.He was shot dead by John Bellingham in the lobby of the House of Commons on 11th May 1812.
Henry Hunt: a good and rare small pink lustre banded beaker printed in black with a named portrait, the revers painted with a floral spray, circa 1819, 65mm(commemorative, pottery, political, parliament, election).* Hunts was the orator at St Peter’s Field in Manchester on 6th August 1819.An event that came to be known as the Peterloo Massacre after is descended in one of horror and massacre.Ex Simpson collection, lot 337.
William Pitt, the Younger: a Wedgwood pale blue jasperware oval portrait plaque, the reverse impressed with name and maker’s mark, circa 1795, 126mm high, restored(commemorative, pottery, political, parliament, election).* John Flaxman is attributed as modelling this study of Pitt circa 1787.
1797 Earl St Vincent: a creamware jug printed in black with a named portrait oval within a border of battle orders, on the reverse, a warship under sail, circa 1797, 226mm, spout restored(commemorative, pottery, naval, military, war).* John Jervis, Admiral of the Blue and Commander in Chief of the Mediterranean was, together with Nelson, triumphant at St Vincent on 14th February 1797 following which he was raised to the Earldom.
16th August 1819 Peterloo Massacre: a pink lustre banded small jug printed in black with a named portrait and on the reverse an inscribed plan of central Manchester, 195mm, hairline crack to rim(commemorative, pottery, political, parliament, election).* The engraving used for this portrait of Hunt is that of Commander Bainbridge of the United States Navy previously used in connection with his success in the War of 1812.The potter clearly believing that its reuse recaptioned would go unnoticed.See Commemorative Pottery, plate 201 and Drakard, plates 734 and 741 also plate 698 for the original Bainbridge version.
Mint Error - 1985 UK 2p on a foreign planchet. Obverse: Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, together with an inscription that reads 'ELIZABETH II D · G · REG · F · D · 1985' around. Reverse: Prince of Wales plumes with 'TWO PENCE' above and '2' below. Edge: plain. Composition: XRF tested as cupronickel alloy before grading, approximately 83% copper, 17% nickel. Grade: NGC Mint Error MS 64 (#6380785-005).

Obverses: Raphael Maklouf portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the date (1992) below with rounded tails to 9s, 'ISLE OF MAN' and 'ELIZABETH II' around with triskelion stops, no 'PM' below the portrait. Reverse: triskelion with '10' to the left, 'QUOCUNQUE' above and 'JECERIS STABIT' below. Tiny 'AA' mintmark on top of right-most foot. Mintage: circa 200. Presentation: sealed in clear sleeve, one broken off but still sealed.
