A late 18th century enamel oval patch box, probably Bilston, the hinged cover decorated with a view of "Laura Place, Bath", mirrored interior, 1¾in (4.5cm) wide, together with four other enamel boxes including one with portrait of "Duke of York" and another with tomb inscribed "Memory of a Friend" (5)
18 th century English school – Head & shoulders portrait of a bearded elderly gentleman wearing a blue turban and ermine collar, oval miniature portrait on ivory, bearing hand-written inscription verso reading ‘Miniature of an old man’s head on ivory by Lady Lucan’, 5 x 4.5cm, in ebonised frame. Note: Lady Lucan possibly refers to Margaret Bingham, Countess of Lucan (1740-1814), who was a renowned copyist and miniature portraitist. In a 1779 letter from Horace Walpole to Sir Horace Mann, Walpole states “Lady Lucan has an astonishing genius for copying whatever she sees. The pictures I lent her from my collection, and some advice I gave her, certainly brought her talent to marvellous perfection in five months”
