Attributed to Edmund Thomas Parris (British, 1793-1873): Portrait of Queen Victoria (1819-1901), three-quarter-length, at the Drury Lane Theatre, November 1837 , oil on board, H 30 x W 25 cm. Note: The present picture relates to Parris' portrait of the Queen, said to be the first painted after her coronation, of which various versions are known. It was a popular image that was first published as an engraving in 1838 & frequently thereafter. On 15 November 1837, Queen Victoria attended the 'lively and pretty' opera 'The Siege of La Rochelle' and a 'somewhat vulgar farce', 'Simpson & Co', at the Drury Lane Theatre. She sat alone in her box, 'which was quite on the stage', with her attendants behind her: 'I was splendidly received', she wrote in her Journal, 'with the greatest enthusiasm & deafening cheering'.

Henri Gascars - Lady Mary Mordant Dutchess of Norfolk 1685, seated with white gown edged in lace with an ochre and grey patterned shawl, titled and dated to top left, paper label verso of W Boswell, Fine Art Galleries, London Street, Norwich, 74 x 61cm **Lady Mary Mardaunt was the only child and heiress of Henry Mordaunt, 2nd Earl of Peterborough, on 1677 she married Henry Howard, Earl of Arundel who succeeded his father as Duke of Norfolk in 1684 In an early copy of 'The Arundel Guide' containing the history and antiquities of Arundel Castle by Richard Dally, Hurst Chase & Co 1830, there appears to be a portrait of the Duke of Norfolk by Gascars, possibly a pair to this portrait
