Fine quality early twentieth century four person picnic set by Rendall & Co, 17 Rue de la Paix, Paris - made for Sir Coleridge Kennard (whose name is embossed on the lid). The tan leather case with rising lid and fall flap front enclosing gold plated fittings including spirit kettle and burner and various accessories including enamel plates, sandwich boxes with gold plated lids, steel bladed knives and forks with bone handles, gold plated boxes, gold plated methylated spirit can and gold plated funnel and vesta case, nickel thermos flask etc, 35.5 high, 49cm wide, 24.5cm deep (Sir Coleridge Kennard (1885-1948) was immortalised in a portrait by Jacques-Emile Blanche painted in 1904 which captures him at the age of 19 as a young dandy, as he was renowned in fashionable society for his good looks. His French mother who was a friend of Oscar Wilde disapproved of the portrait and therefore it was exhibited anonymously as a portrait of Dorian Gray. Leslie Ward, called `Spy` (1851-1922) PORTRAIT OF SIR JOHN BLUNDELL MAPLE, 1st Bart. (1845-1903), FULL LENGTH IN PROFILE Signed l.r, watercolour and bodycolour over pencil 31 x 17cm. John Blundell Maple took over his father`s furniture shop in Tottenham Court Road, London in 1892 and expanded it considerably, becoming chairman in 1890. He entered Parliament as Conservative member for Dulwich in 1887 and served until his death in 1903. He was knighted in 1892 and made a baronet in 1897.
