JOHN SMART JUNIOR Miniature portrait of Capt. Robert Woolf Junior (1786/7-1825) of the 6th Madras Light Cavalry wearing uniform, watercolour on card signed and dated on obverse 1805; 13 x 10.5 cms *The sitter was the cousin of John Smart Junior and grandson of John Smart Senior, his mother being the daughter of the miniature painter.
A mid 19th Century giltwood and gesso overmantel mirror:, surmounted by a central oval Sevres-style plaque depicting a female portrait, with husk cresting and laurel leaf spray below, flanked to either side by an urn, hung with floral foliate garlands, having an egg and dart cornice and foliate and beaded frieze, the plate flanked by turned and fluted columns, with foliate and scroll capitals, 179cm (5ft 10 1/2in) high x 158cm (5ft 2 1/4in).

Anglo/Irish School Circa 1800-A miniature portrait of a young man, head and shoulders,:-with wavy blonde hair, sideburns and blue eyes, wearing a white cravat with coral pin and a blue coat, sky background, on ivory, oval, 7.2cm, in a yellow metal frame with purple guilloche enamel and hair reverse with gold WNA initials.
Thomas Hargreaves [1775-1846]-A miniature portrait of Peter Rothwell [1792-1849],:-bust-length seated in an interior, with short brown hair and sideburns, and brown eyes, wearing a black coat with white cravatsigned and inscribed Liverpool on the backing cardon ivory, 9.5 x 7.9cm.* Notes Peter Rothwell was born in Bolton. His father was founder of the Union Foundry and after he was joined by Benjamin Hick, the firm became Rothwell, Hick & Rothwell. Rothwell was the inventor of the Variable Blast Pipe and a promoter of the Bolton & Leigh Railway which opened in 1838.
English School Circa 1810-A miniature portrait of a gentleman, head and shoulders, with short brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a blue coat and white linen cravat,:- on ivory, oval, 5.8cm, in a gilt metal frame.* Provenance. A previous old label with the miniature stating 'Property of The Duke of Sussex'.
Thomas Carlyle [fl.1812-1837]-A miniature portrait of Mrs James Mierspeult [of Seaforthe, Liverpool], nee P.O'Connor of Dublin, 1830,:- bust-length with brown hair in ringlets and wearing a white lace turban, gold drop earrings, a long gold chain and brown dress, inscribed on the reverse, on ivory, 9 x 6.7cm, together with one other miniature by Thomas Gosse of Mrs Thomas Roberts of Rotherhithe, aged 70. [2]
Noel N Carter [fl.1820-30s]-A miniature portrait of Agnes Nixon [1804-1890], daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth Nixon, nee Paley,: bust-length, with long dark hair tied high and ringlets, brown eyes and wearing a white satin dress, pale blue shawl and tight corset, sky background, on ivory, oval, 6.5cm, together with a miniature portrait of a young man thought to be Richard Hey, married to Agnes Nixon 1829, by a different hand, in ornate 'ormolu' frames. [2]* Notes Richard Hey [d.1860] was one of the original 300 Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons. He married Agnes Nixon in 1829 and became Surgeon to the York County Hospital, to the Institute for The Blind and the Female Penitentiary.
Henry Hawkins [18/19th Century]-A miniature portrait of a young lady, three-quarter length standing,:- with long blonde hair dressed in plaits and ringlets, blue eyes and wearing a pale pink dress and lace shawl, view to blue sky and water beyond, signed and dated H. Hawkins 18** bottom righton ivory, 12 x 9cm.
