James Carroll Beckwith (1852-1917) American. Portrait of a Man, believed to be John Singer Sargent, looking to the left with the sunlight coming from behind, Oil on Canvas, Signed and Dated December 19th ‘74 and later inscribed, top right, JS Sargent, verso portrait of a man with a moustache, Oil on Canvas, 12.5” x 9” . This was painted in 1874 when Beckwith and Sargent were both painting in the Carolus Studio in France. We are very grateful to Richard Ormond who helped us catalogue this painting after seeing it in the flesh.

Six Jubilee mugs, Golden 1887 and Diamond 1897, variously printed with portraits of the Queen and emblems, one inscribed `Arundel Park, June 1897` Slough mug is restored to base rim. Arundel mug has wear to monogram. Paddington has chips to base rim and discolouring. Sporting mug has crack above Victoria`s portrait, gilt wear. Blue mug has crazing throughout, wear to printing, firing crack to handle. Brown mug has crazing, crack and chip to rim.
