George Henry Taggart (American school,1865-1924), Portrait of mother and child, three quarter length in evening dress, signed and dated 1905 lower right, oil on canvas, 80 x 114cm Notes: George Henry Taggart was born in Port Washington, New York in 1865. He trained in Paris and specialised in portrait and genre painting. His work was recognised st the Expo Toulouse, France and the Salon d'Automne. Due to health reasons he moved to Utah in 1900 and then spent much time painting the elders of the Mormon church. The sitters in this portrait are Amy and her son Leslie Sample. Amy sample was George Taggart's sister in law.
A portrait miniature locket, 19th century, with gold coloured mount against a black ground and inscribed verso "Robert Clapham, Oct 12th Mar 1855" and with monogram "AE68", the picture aperture now housing a print of a gentleman removing to reveal a lock of hair. 4.8 cm x 3.8 cm excluding suspension chain.
A pastel, head and shoulders portrait of a young girl. 26 cm x 17 cm, framed. CONDITION REPORT: The picture is framed and under glass. It appears to be in very good condition with no issues. The mount is good and the frame in generally good order also. The picture could be hung in its present condition without the need for any work.

In 1997 he won the Royal Mint competition for a new effigy of Elizabeth II to appear on the obverse of circulated British and some Commonwealth coinage from 1998 onward and has subsequently designed a number of other coins for the Royal Mint. His works are in the permanent collections of the British Museum, London’s National Portrait Gallery, the Ashmolean Museum, Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge, St Paul’s Cathedral, the Rijksmuseum, and several others.In 2007, he sculpted a number of over life size bronze figures for the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum for which he received the Marsh Award for Public Sculpture in 2008.In 2010 he executed a memorial to Dean Colet founder of St Paul’s School, London; which can be seen in St Paul’s Cathedral.Other major works are St Matthew at St Matthew’s Northampton, H M Queen in Garter robes at the Supreme Court, Charles James Fox at Chertsey, The Royal Anglian Regimental Memorial, Imperial War Museum, Duxford.
