A rare Egyptian commemorative silver medal / coin, Abbas Hilmi II, 1897 Khedive Abbas Hilmi II (1892-1914), Dedication of the National Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, Cairo, 1897, by Seraphin Emil Vernier, uniformed bust and wearing a fez, on the reverse a crest and open wreath, in Arabic and French naming the Khedive, Minister, Director and Architect, stamped ARGENT 950 M/M on edge. The first Egyptian Museum was built in Boulak and moved to the Giza Palace in 1891. The present Museum which this medal commemorates is situated in the Tahrir Square in Cairo. Building work commenced in 1897 and it opened on the 15th November 1902. Vernier dates his obverse portrait 1896, diameter 7cm. Maurice Jenkins (1933-2022). North Cornwall collector. Maurice was a lifetime collector and started in the 1950s. He opened a shop in Liskeard in the 1970s called Canon Hill Antiques. He visited a number of Middle Eastern countries in his lifetime including Egypt in the late 1970's when his interest in Islamic and Asian antiques began. He was a man with an eye for quality and a love of antiques, history and travel who purchased privately and at auction over the decades. Over a lifetime of purchasing privately and at auction, he created an eclectic ensemble of collections reflecting his interests. He died a few weeks before his 90th birthday and was still buying until that time.

Admiral Lord Nelson, a George III commemorative silver-gilt snuff box, by William Purse, London 1805, rectangular form, the hinged cover with a winged victory angel blowing a trumpet and Britannia lamenting over a portrait in profile of the fallen hero, above the banner 'Nile, Copenhagen, Trafalgar', with a lion and the stern of H.M.S. Victory in the background, the sides and base with bands of decoration, the interior of the cover inscribed 'J. Aveling 77th Regiment', length 7.8cm, approx. weight 2.5oz. Provenance: A Private Collection. Purchased from Henry Duke’s saleroom in Dorchester on 17th August, 2006, lot 265.The elaborate lid of this snuffbox was originally designed by Peter Wyon, sculptor and medallist, as a memorial plaquette and only afterwards used to adorn a few snuffboxes. Of all the many items made to commemorate Nelson’s heroic death at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805, these boxes may be regarded as one of the most exclusive. Extensive research by the vendor, a Nelson aficionado for many years, has noted only three other examples in addition to the one offered here, one of them in the celebrated Lily McCarthy Collection held in the Museum of the Royal Navy at Portsmouth.John Avering was an ensign in the 77th Regiment on the 25 November 1802, he became a Lieutenant in 1804 and went on to become a Captain on the 20 May 1813. He died while serving as a captain circa 1822-23. For the maker's mark see Grimwade, A., London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, Faber and Faber 1990, page 276, entry 3895.

D.L, J.P, &c &c in Commemoration of the Signal Artillery & Honourable Conduct which Distinguished his Candature for Tynemouth at the General Elections Nov. 17th 1868 & April 3rd 1880 & as a Mark of Lasting Regard & Esteem', length handle to handle 59cm, approx. weight 124oz.Provenance: John Trotter Esq., and then by family descent to the present owner.

H. Smith, early 19th century school, Full length portrait mounted on horseback on the battle field 'Painted by H. Smith Private 18th Hussars, 1821, Newbridge Ireland' watercolour on paper, 29cm x 23cm; another19th century example titled 'Officers of The 18th Hussars' (2) Research Notes: In 1815 the 18th King's Irish Regiment of Light Dragoons (Hussars) took part in the final campaign against Napoleon at Quatre Bras and Waterloo. It had previously served in the Peninsular (1808-1814) where it sustained heavy casualties, losing an entire squadron at the Battle of Vitoria in 1813. The regiment was disbanded in Ireland in 1821. Condition: Very well painted, finely picked out in gilt throughout, foxed with signs of old bookworm. The second, lightly foxed, torn towards the bottom of the study, both unmounted and unframed.

The vesta with A K C monogram, the Asprey card holder in brown & tan calf leather, the pipes both presented in original leather & velvet lined vases. The photographs comprising a cabinet card featuring two ladies taken in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, a late Victorian portrait of a well decorated gentleman and a circa 1890s portrait of a man. A large 20th Century oleograph laid on canvas painting after George Romney. The oleograph depicting a portrait of a mother and her son with views to the backdrop. Set within a decorative gilt gesso frame with acanthus leaf detailing. Wear commensurate with age, some lose to the frame and mark to the oleograph. Measures approx; 218cm x 140cm. All lots in this auction are part of a private collection of antique furniture and smaller effects. The collection having been amassed over a 30-40 year period by an ex-furniture restore who's eye for a good piece shows through in this auction.
