Dimensions 6x5 cm, portrait of a Russian officer, indistinct or fanciful medals (we can still see the Cross of the Order of St. Anne) on the uniform, number "2" on the collar of jacket for the battalion, acute facial expression and superb definition of the hair, very fresh&nice execution of a talented painter in the style of Louis LEopold Boilly, beginning 19th Century.

Medal by Henri Auguste Jules Patey (Paris), 51 mm; 66.2 g., Forrer-Vol. IV pg. 425; Medals of the Rattanakosin Era-pg. 88/9. Obv. Bust of King Rama V in military dress facing right, legend around; Rev: Six lines inscription with date below, edge inscription stamped by hand "MONNAIE DE PARIS - ARGENT". This medal was struck to commemorate King Rama V's first visit to Europe from April 7-December 16, which also happened to be the first time any monarch from Thailand had visited Europe. The honor of designing this medal was given to Henri Auguste Jules Patey, the Chief Engraver at the Paris Mint. Remarkably, Patey was able to complete his initial portrait of the king after only one sitting. The original portrait by Patey was designed in wax from which a plaster mold was made. Using a plaster negative with graphite coating, an electroformed copper negative was made. This negative would have been the prototype used by the reduction machine to produce the 50 mm medal. After the dies were completed a proof of the medal was presented to the king for examination. Pleased with the work, the king ordered a second production of the medal in 30 mm to be used as an order or decoration. In case of issue, with silver Thai symbol on the lid. Extremely rare original strike, almost uncirculated! I RR!

The first sale of the contents totalled £75,562 4s 6d over 35 days. It included the famous "Chandos Portrait" of Shakespeare which sold to the Earl of Ellesmere for £372 15s. and in 1856 became the first donation to the newly-created National Portrait Gallery. HERBERT SIDNEY (BRITISH 1858-1923) PORTRAIT OF MISS ALICE ADDISON CROFTON Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1901, 142.5 x 77cm (56 x 30 1/4") Inscribed 'Portrait of Miss Alice Addison Crofton painted by Herbert Sidney 1901' on canvas verso Bears hand written inscription: 'Miss Alice Addison Crofton Property of above named Victoire Park Menton France', on label verso Condition Report: The purest whites on the upper and lower sections of the dress bear moderate craquelure as a result of thicker impasto. There is a light to moderate degree of cracking in the pigment in an area, approx. 11cm sq., located mid way up the top left quarter section in proximity to the left edge. There is a small area of light cracking in the pigment close to the bottom edge on the left and there are a number of small dark spots apparent over the lighter areas mainly centred in the middle and upper and lower middle sections of the canvas.

SCOTTISH SCHOOL (LATE 19TH CENTURY) PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG WOMAN Oil on canvas, 53 x 43cm (21 x 17") Condition Report: Stretcher bar lines are visible on all sides with cracking in the pigment down the one on the right. There is craquelure evident over much of the surface with the exception being the lower right quarter section. The canvas is very thin and there are four small areas visible from the front where pigment has been lost and the canvas is bare and extremely thin. There are light staining markings at the top, left, in the form of a vertical, approx. 9cm in length, an area of similar, lower middle left, and the smallest area in proximity to the bottom right corner with there being small splashes of similar predominantly within the lower left quarter section. There are a number of tiny areas of paint loss, which are none too obvious as a result of being located on the darker areas mainly around the peripheries.,

19th century cream marble and micro-mosaic desk stand with a figure in Albanian robes holding flowers, 11cm x 15cm, the mosaic panel probably by G. Barberi Known primarily for his superb miniatures of animals, Gioacchino Barberi has been acknowledged as one of the greatest mosaic masters since the discovery of his 1833 table top of a battle scene made for the Imperial Court of Nicholas I. Documents from the Russian State Archives reveal he was also paid for other mosaics and given a ring worth 2,400 rubles by the Emperor. Barberi’s international sophistication is reflected in this mosaic of a woman in magnificent Albanian dress, perhaps inspired by Lord Byron who, after visiting the Ottoman-ruled region had his portrait painted in Albanian costume in 1813 (British Embassy, Athens). A very similar item was sold at Sotheby's New York on 15/10/2015 lot no.220.and is illustrated in Micromosaics: Private Collections by Jeanette Hanisee GabrielP. 251 No. 216.
