English School (early 19th century) Portrait of a Cardinale-infante Ferdinando, standing, three quarter length, wearing a red sash, lace collar and wide brimmed hat Oil on canvas, 104cm by 84.5cm The work is contained within its original elaborately decorated gilt plaster and wooden frame with embellished corner and centre motifs decorated with flowers and foliate scrolls According to Michael Jaffe's book on Rubens published by Rizzoli 1989 Sir Joshua Reynolds is noted as having painted a version of the above painting after Sir Peter Paul Rubens' original. This, or a version of this picture, is said to have hung in Sir Joshua Reynolds's studio in London See illustration
Circle of Francis Cotes (18th century) Portrait of a Fashionable Lady, half length, wearing blue and cream satin dress Oil on canvas, 65cm by 52cm The artist was apprenticed to George Knapton in the early 1740's, at first only using crayons and began using pastels in 1747, possibly being taught oil painting by Knapton. His early rococo style was modified by the example of Liotard who was in London in 1753-1756 and he learned from the patterns of Ramsey and Reynolds. He was the most fashionable portrait painter after Reynolds and Gainsborough, his death preventing him becoming a serious rival to Reynolds. See illustration

Kilkenny, Ireland. Ex. collection Sir John Plum, ex sale Cheffins 14th May 2002 Possibly a portrait of Mary or Theresa Herbert, the Herbert family have connections to the De Vere family and Heskeths There are elements of John Closterman, Jacob Huysmans and Sir Godfrey Kneller in this work. It is a typical 17th/18th century classical pose. The work is contained within its original late 17th/early 18th century carved giltwood frame decorated with foliate scrolls and flowers. Attributed to Jonathan Richardson Snr (c.1665-1745) Portrait of Thomas Boothby Esq., First Master of the Quorn, of Tooley Park, Leicestershire, standing, three quarter length holding a shotgun, his two sporting dogs by his side Extensively inscribed on an exhibition label verso, also inscribed on a later label giving details of what was written on the reverse of the original canvas, also inscribed "J. Richardson Pinx", oil on canvas, 127cm by 102cm Exhibited at the Leicester Museum and Art Gallery, "Sport in the Midlands Exhibition" Born London 1664/5 and died May 1745, a pupil of Charles Ruben Ryley (Riley) and his heir. He helped to found the 1711 Academy and was a rival of Sir Godfrey Kneller and Michael Dahl. His writings, especially the "Theory of Painting" of 1715 and, in collaboration with his son, "The Account of the Works of Art the Grand Tourist should see in Italy" 1722 were immensely influential. William Selby (b.1933) "Joe", portrait of an elderly gentleman, head and shoulders Signed "Selby", also inscribed with title and the artist's name and his address verso, oil on board, 30.5cm by 27.5cm, unframed The artist is self-taught. He was born in Fitzwilliam, Yorkshire, the son of a miner, and worked in the mines 1948-1955, doing his National Service 1955-1957 and then worked in engineering and insurance until he became a fulltime painter in 1974. He is a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1982 and the Royal Society of British Artists. He has won several awards. His works can be seen in the Mappin Art Gallery Sheffield.

Studied art at the Slade School of Art, the Byam Shaw School of Art, and Paris, exhibiting prolifically at the R.A., Royal Society of British Artist's, the Royal Pastel Society, the National Portrait Society etc. See illustration

A number of his works can be found at the Bristol City Art Gallery.
Thomas Davidson (fl.1863-1893) "Norah", portrait of a young country girl Inscribed with the title and the artist's name together with his address on an old label verso, oil on panel, 31cm by 23cm London historical genre painter who exhibited at the R.A. 1863-1903. He also exhibited at Suffolk Street.
Clifford Eric Martin Hall R.O.I., N.S. (1904-1973) "Nude" Signed, also inscribed on the artist's original label verso with the title, the original price (25 guineas) and the artist's address, oil on board, 22cm by 13cm Born in London, a portrait and landscape painter in oils and watercolours. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools 1925-1928 and Paris, exhibiting at the R.A., Royal Portrait Society, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, New English Art Club, the Royal Society of British Artists, the Paris Salon and in the provinces.
