James Lynn PITT (1875-1922) Fine Weather Oil on lined canvas, signed, titled verso, 30cm x 45cm, 40.5cm x 56cm framed. Oil on canvas, signed, 29cm x 45cm, 41cm x 56cm framed. The artist, a member of the notable Pitt family, which had produced two former prime ministers, arrived in St Ives accompanied by a manservant to assist him, as he was disabled and confined to a wheelchair. One of his sisters lived nearby in Norway Square, while two other sisters stayed at the family home in Clifton, Bristol. His work is signed Lynn Pitt and for many years, when it turned up in salerooms, it was assumed to be a female artist. It was only since Marion Whybrow researched her book 'St Ives, 1883-1993, Portrait of an Art Colony', that he has been identified as one of the early St Ives artists and, during his lifetime, was very well known and respected. Pitt worked from the White Studio, a wooden chalet on the cliffs at Porthmeor Beach, which was open to the public and is now the site of the St Ives Tate Gallery. He painted views of The Island and Clodgy Point and showcased his work during the St Ives Show Days in 1911 and 1913. After returning from Clifton in 1920 following an illness, he discovered that his studio had been broken into and it was eventually destroyed in a storm. He is buried in Barnoon Cemetery, where a headstone in the form of a painter's palette marks his grave. Shipping is available from £32.50 to a UK Mainland address.

1936 Austin 18/6 Chalfont Limousine (Man) – DKJ 973Registering on the 26th October 1936, this car was sold to Lady Colyer-Fergusson – whose photo portraits are at the national portrait gallery. Daughter of Sir Thomas Colyer-Fergusson, 3rd Bt. The car has an aristocratic feel. Its assumed it was used to chauffeur Lady Colyer-Fergusson up from Kent to London, or for afternoon tea with other likemindeds. The car was sold on in 1945 and again in 1946. From there we think one keeper between this and Lord Of Cannock. Again, the car wears Lord Cannock’s coat of arms. The body work presents well. The only shame is the carpet missing in the rear View more - https://hansonsclassics.com/car/1936-austin-18-6-chalfont-limousine-manual/

A bronze Roman coin featuring Romulus and Remus suckling with she-wolf, verso a head with plumed helmet facing left, 19 by 12mm, Roman Empire Commemorative Series, struck under Constantine I the 'Great' 307/10-337 AD, 2g, Urbs Roma series, probably struck circa 335-339 AD. PLUS A Queen Victoria “Cumberland Jack’ token coin, 1867, Portrait left, VICTORIA REGINA, verso TO HANOVER 1837, figure riding a horse on the reverse. (2)Note: The tokens & counters that bear the words "To Hanover" were produced as satirical counters. The history behind these pieces is that when Victoria was crowned as Queen, she was unable to fulfil the role of King of Hanover under Salic Law, due to the fact that she was a female. Her unpopular Uncle (Ernest Augustus, the Duke of Cumberland) who was the oldest male heir to the throne was sent off to Hanover instead to fulfil the role, and the counters/tokens were produced to commemorate (celebrate) his departure. They were produced around the time of Victoria's ascension to the throne in 1837 and continued to be produced for the next few decades, they were finally made illegal in 1883.
