Patrick Lambert Larking (British 1907-1981), oil on canvas, half length portrait of a young boy. 61 cm x 40.5 cm, signed and dated 1927 (see illustration). ARR CONDITION REPORT: The painting is in untouched, original, unrestored condition. It has not been relined. The painting is not glazed. It is generally a little dirty and has some minor surface scuffs and marks. The paint is a little thin in places and the canvas just visible in areas. This is most pronounced to the bottom section of the picture on the folded arms and below and to the right hand side of the head. There is also further canvas showing on the left hand side. We do not think that this is paint loss simply the manner in which the picture was painted in the first instance. The original frame is in generally good structural condition and the gilding is good. It does however have numerous small flecks of dirt and requires a clean.
E. Easton Tayler, British, early 20th century, oil on panel, half length portrait of Jane Alsebrook. 60 cm x 44 cm, signed and dated 1927 (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This painting is framed and glazed and has a backing board so we are unable to see the rear of the painting itself. The portrait does however appear to be in very good order. We can see no evidence of any damage, repairs or any restoration. The picture is in its original frame and is unlikely to have ever been removed. The picture glass is generally very dirty but we can see no issues with the paintwork. The colours are bright and strong. The oval gilt frame is in reasonable order. There are some cracks and small losses to the gesso particularly to the left of the dolls head where there are small losses and stress fractures.
E. Easton Tayler (British 20th Century) three quarter length portrait of Geoffrey Alsebrook in rural surroundings, signed and dated 1928, oil painting on canvas 90 cm x 70 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: This picture is under glass. It is in extremely good order. It would appear to be in its original frame. The frame has a backboard and we cannot therefore see the rear of the canvas. The colours are very strong and we cannot see any evidence of any significant damage, repairs or restoration. It is unlikely that the picture has been out of its frame. There is some minor paint shrinkage to the trouser area of the portrait but other than this we can see no issues with the picture itself. The original frame does have some damage. There is a loss to the gesso in the bottom left hand corner. This is about 4 cm square in total. The frame also has some traces of woodworm which we believe to have long gone. We cannot see any woodworm holes in the canvas or the gilt slip surrounding the painting.
Attributed to E. Easton Tayler (British, 20th Century), three quarter length portrait of Ralph Alsebrook seated holding a pond yacht before trees a lake and mountainous background, unsigned, oil on panel, 26.5 cm x 64 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The painting is framed and glazed. The painting is on a panel. We can see no evidence of any repairs or restoration and it is unlikely that the picture has ever been out of the frame. There is some minor paint shrinkage particularly to the face of the sitter but no serious condition issues. The original frame is in generally very good order with only minor blemishes. The picture glass is extremely dirty on both sides.
